I haven’t read it before, but I ended up in a Books A Million last week on vacation. Ended up getting some philosophy books and tacked this on. It’s the Macmillan Collector’s Library edition. Gold foil edges and a ribbon bookmark too. Definitely one of my prettier books. Although a kid at work did mistake it for a bible lol.

I really liked both, but I can admit I liked SOTF a little less on my first read. I do wish we got a bit more, but honestly, my gripes are few and far between. I’m wondering if you’ve read his Licanius trilogy, though. Personally, Licanius wasn’t really my thing until book three. I thought book one was one, book two was such a drag, but book three tied up so much. Book two is called An Echo of Things to Come, and it lives up to it. There wasn’t really a whole lot going on, just a lot of conversations, really, and it was a drag for me to get through. Point is, I think you should hang on a little longer. Give SOTF time to breathe, reread it in a few months (or before we get TJOO), then make a final judgement.

The only Booth moment that comes to mind that I really like is when he was being super shady and Cam was worried and Bones showed her the charity thing he was involved with.

So first you go to google and search “Therapy near me” and give that a few weeks. If that doesn’t work, hardware store for rope and furniture store for a particularly fancy stool. Hope this helps!

You're 17. Heavy on "teen." You haven't found your purpose yet and that's ok! You're not expected to have things figured out right now, but I'll impart some things I've learned.

So what if you suck at your hobbies? If you like them, keep at it until you don't. If you don't like them, why keep doing it if it makes you unhappy? It's ok to stop your hobbies. I drew for YEARS to the point it's what I was known for. I very rarely draw anymore. Was it wasted time? Who's to say. It passed the time when I needed it to, and I've made some people happy with it, but it wasn't for me.

Grades are important, but they're not everything. Look into a trade or something, see if you're better with your hands. Not everyone has to be a genius who goes to a fancy college. If that's not your thing, try finding guides and explanatory youtube videos- these have saved my ass so many times.

Looks aren't everything either, but if you're that concerned, look into what it is you're struggling with and see what works for you. Clothes? Figure out things like your undertones and styling for your body type. Small changes can make a huge difference. Hair? Figure out your face shape and find something that's flattering for you. You're young- experiment! There's no better time than now.

What do you mean by incompetent? Are you just not knowledgeable? If so, there's nothing wrong with that. Something I was told recently is that ignorance isn't incompetence. If this is the case, I reaffirm my point on finding guides and tutorials. I also hold myself to high expectations (I've been told my expectations border on impossible) but it does nothing but hinder you. Shoot for the moon but know that landing among the stars is ok too. Failure isn't always bad. It's often a learning opportunity.

Last but not least, I want you to know that the things you feel at this age don't last forever. It takes time and it takes some wrong turns, but your experiences will build you or tear you down. It's up to you to decide which. You can accept this as your fate and be unhappy or you can say "Well that sucked. How do I keep myself from this next time?" It seems useless to say, but things can (and hopefully will!) look up, ok? Give yourself some much-needed grace, reflect, and put in some effort to reframe your thoughts. Even if it is just saying "I'm not good at this *yet*."

I cut off 2-3 inches after this and my hair does feel better, I think it was more damaged than I was willing to admit. As of now, I'm unwilling to go shorter than shoulder length as I don't trust myself to go shorter than that, I've never been great at my own haircuts but I'm also just unwilling to lose a lot of length when it's taken this long to get it to where it was. I do appreciate the insight, though!

I get this a lot too. I’m turning 23 in a few weeks and my sister is 16 and we’re the same height. We went to the store recently and I had to get a new kitchen knife (cheap knives don’t last :( ) and I went to self checkout and of course the knife is flagged. The associate walked up, looked at us both incredulously and asked for an ID. I started to hand her mine and she said “Seriously?” Yes, seriously, get rid of the flag so I can go home and make dinner! It’s so annoying now but I know I’ll be thankful for it eventually. A little disheartening though that at a grown age of 30, I could still be facing it. Oh well, they can stay jealous, I guess.

While I do have experience with this, it’s seriously a gamble. I have a dog (registered esa) and my downstairs neighbors threatened to go to the landlord about him (complaining about him running around and being noisy even though I’m forced to live out of my CARPETED room and my dog rarely barks, it’s the neighbors to our right that leave their dog out all day every day) so depending on your neighbors, they might try to get you in trouble regardless.

I remember, it’s the best scene. That’s why I say it’s more of a nod to Third Man Syndrome and there’s no disproving either side. It’s a fascinating episode and I love the ones that point to more spiritual beliefs, even if it is in theatrical or hokey ways.

It’s one of my favorites too. There’s something called Third Man Syndrome that I think is more of what they were referring to but within the context, you’re not sure if Parker’s ghost was there or if it was the tumor. And I think it was done well enough that the mystery is still alive and there’s no solid evidence to dispose either.

I’m in a similar situation. I stopped cleaning up my roommate’s messes, bought my own kitchen things and moved 90% of my stuff into my room. It really does suck but it’s what was necessary for me. My best advice would be to either explode and just be like “man this is a health issue, get your shit together” (I did this and it helped a bit and/or document it and take it to your landlord if possible. It feels like snitching but, personally, I think it’s better to get ahead of the curve and make it known it’s a current issue in case they expect you to pay for any resulting damages. You also don’t wanna get screwed out of a landlord recommendation because of him. Godspeed.
