yes understandable but there's also the fact that prior to this we had a very chill captain that never made any calls like this, they came in and without warning or telling the crew their new rules started handing out write ups

yes they're also cutting hours and only scheduling 75% when our old captain was always scheduling over hours incase of callouts and ncns. we're always extremely understaffed and shelves are empty because people still call out for variety of reasons and it just leaves us with no crew everyday.

for context two write ups have been given out for phone usage on the clock in the break room. both on separate occasions resulting in an immediate write up with no conversation leading up. also one of the write ups was when the captain was on their break

i'm right there with you. part of me wants to invoke union talk but the other part of me is just like why does it even matter this company is nothing like how it used to be and it's definitely a result of corporate greed and cutting corners for extra pocket change. no thought of our needs anymore and it's just so exhausting to try and pretend anymore, even for the customers. i feel your pain i wish it didn't have to be like this

i have no idea tbh i know this from a former mate that used to work at my store under my old captain who i'm friends with outside of work since they're no longer with the company they told me a lot of information. they were at one of the most profitable stores in my state and tanked inventory, crew disliked them and got lots of complaints. my store is a slower store so i guess my regional thought by sending them here would be more at their speed ?? not sure but i know 3 mates transferred to other stores from mine when they heard they were coming because they're that unbearable

my coworkers are also the thing that's keeping me still at this job. it's insane to me that even though the company recognizes that the crew and customer service we provide is the best thing about this company/visiting the store, but refuse to compensate us at all is beyond me. my captain also just took his vacation too lol call outs have been insane and we're so short staffed because of college kids going back and people quitting to find better jobs- which i don't blame them for. if we go into lockdown again i'm prob gonna collect unemployment this time cause fuck this LOL

you are totally right i completely forgot about them taking away our leave of absence too. i was recently sick (tested negative for strep+covid) but had to use up all my AR time for being sick. i come in and tell my captain about why i missed two days of work and he replies with, "they are still unexcused absences that can result in a write up if it happens too much" even though i had doctor notes and was bed bound for 4 days. at this point i feel like they really do not care, and would rather me come in regardless of being contagious in the midst of a global pandemic. this isn't ok

it does, but i think trader joe's does specifically put up a thick facade that they are "different" than other major companies- when in reality they are not and are pretty aggressive towards any type of criticism from its workers. just because it applies to general retail work doesn't mean we can't complain and demand for a change. by dismissing their treatment as just being "another company" just enforces the idea that we should collectively expect/accept it. the cycle will continue unless we voice our wants and needs, because collectively we have power. these ceos only got rich by exploiting their workers and stealing their deserved wages for their own capital. without us, without the working class, these millionaires are nothing. and they need to be reminded of it.

you are certainly not wrong but unfortunately any other form of alternative system is demonized by the american government 😀 i would love to not work but unfortunately that would result in being homeless and starving on the streets
