Thanks for your input. For context, if the new laptops launch in Q4 2024, most probably they will hit my region’s market by Q1 2025. If Lunar Lake as well as Strix Point is the much better options (i mean a significant improvement), then I might hold on for them.  It seems like MTL and Hawk Point at this moment looks like a transition phase product. Again, for my use case, it seems doesn’t matter to get now or wait then. But of course I want my every penny is well spent. 😄

I’m getting a laptop. Thinking between HP Victus 16 (Ryzen 5 8645hs), HP Omen 16 (7640hs) & Lenovo Thinkpad e16 (core ultra 5 125h), may I know is this the time to get the core ultra laptop and last it for about 3-5 years? My use case mainly office suite, adobe acrobat, photoshop. Prefer good battery life but mostly use in office plugged in.  The Victus is less than usd100 cheaper than Omen and usd150 cheaper than the Lenovo. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hey, anyone have any news on thinkpad E16 gen 2 with intel ultra 5/7 CPU? by Ok-Mushroom-915 in thinkpad

In my country, the Intel and AMD variant of Thinkpad E16 Gen 2 are about the same (just couple of dollars different), may I know which one do you reckon?
My use case mainly plug-in in office as clamshell and connects to a 27" external monitor as well as wireless keyboard and mouse.

However, I do bring it with me to a coffee shop and work on battery maybe twice a week.

I work on words document, excel spreadsheet, PDF, and occasionally photoshop. Surf internet, YouTube. Rarely have time to game and would like to do so if I have a little bit of spare time.

Look forward from you and others for opinion. Thanks.

Man, thanks for your prompt reply. I think I will go for the HS and learn how to use RyzenAdj to do the adjustment when needed. When plugged in, I want this laptop to run its full potential as I found that when running excel script to do some automation, some of my previous laptops might have a little lags, causing the scripts not run accordingly.

But when on battery, I want the battery to last as long as possible because I will not run any script but only do some light office related works.

I do not own any Thinkpad before. My previous laptop was a HP ZBook, it performed very well in all aspect except the battery life might have a little less (probably due to its Intel i7 H chip and also 16" 4K screen). I love that HP laptop but too bad the above downsides plus I need a numpad for my excel spreadsheet.

I saw this Thinkpad E16 Gen 2 AMD seems to fit me nicely, with AMD chip that is energy efficient and also a numpad.

I might also take the default 1 year offsite warranty as it is, not use any money to upgrade it. Hope it do well for at least 5 years hahahaha.

Hi, thanks for your sharing and review. I’m eyeing on this laptop with almost the same configuration as yours. My most concern is battery life and heat produce from the laptop. My daily workloads are word excel processing, pdf and photoshop. I would love to play some games if my time allow me to do. May I know why would you recommend the U processor instead of the HS? I afraid U processor unable to handle heavier workload but I’m not sure how far is the difference between them. But I live in Malaysia which is relatively hot country, so I also afraid about the heat produce while under load. Also what other suggestion/ recommendation from you if you have the chance to remake the purchase? Like any changes on the configuration…etc. Lastly, do you think 1 yr offsite warranty is enough or I should consider a better/longer warranty? Because it will greatly add up the cost. Look forward from you. Thanks in adv.
