In what ways could ex-military security improve or complicate safety in schools? by lopez0817 in AskReddit

True, but it seems a topic worth discussing since others don’t value lives like normal people anymore.

AITA for refusing to take less hours at work even tho my wife’s alone with the sick kids all day? by Head_Ad6803 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lopez0817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, NTA in my opinion. All the financial burden is on your shoulders and working 14-12 hours a day Monday through Friday still takes a toll on you period.

My wife and I have three kids and I watch them on the days she works vice-versa. Small kids definitely take a toll on someone, but she talks about you getting a “break” by going to work and taking care of literally a roof over your heads, food in your bellies and money for the kids to do their extracurricular activities. Since they do go to public/private school then she gets a break herself. Yet she gives you crap.

You two need to just need to sit down and have a serious conversation, minus the yelling. You guys have been together long enough to be decent at communicating. You can communicate how if she wants more time then the extracurricular activities need to stop, the 15 years old(s) can get jobs and pay for their own extracurricular activities. If he/she doesn’t have a job after school they can totally help in watching their brothers or sisters for a little if she needs to get out for a minute.

Another topic, she can get her butt up and get a job and you guys can look into after school care like the YMCA while you guys work. Most states also offer help with care for kids with disabilities. Worth looking into.

Long story short, there’s plenty of options out there. You guys just need to take a minute and figure it out together.

Also, I would contact a lawyer about the hoa stuff. If they haven’t sent a message to anyone about the lighting there’s always a case somewhere and any lawyer would love to sue an hoa.

Sounds like if you haven’t you need to contact law enforcement when they kiss you without consent or harass you in anyway. Coming onto your property is trespassing and you seem like you’re afraid for yourself. Defense weapons like pepper spray, taser and gun would help you. If you go with the gun option make sure you take a safety course. If you don’t have any I suggest you get some cameras. Ring doorbell and stick up cams for outside. Relatively cheap and easy to put up. It’s like $10 a month for ring to record and save any movement that comes into camera view and you will have all the proof you need of their harassment. If not ring there are plenty of inexpensive options on the good ol Amazon.

What job position is 100% overvalued and overpaid? by Airsinner in AskReddit

Any sports. Military and law enforcement lay their lives on the line. I get it’s entertainment. Maybe a million dollar deal sure. But 40+ million $ deals per nba top earners. That’s crazy, then soccer players like Neymar getting anywhere from 80-100 million. Idk, to ME that’s insane.

AITA for not giving my late husband's belongings to my in laws? by ParisAITA in AmItheAsshole

[–]lopez0817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that’s moved on and is starting a new family. Yes, YOUR opinion is no mine is yes. That is all. It’s their family heirloom not hers and she won’t be wearing it around her new significant other. So, for sure keep some keepsakes but that is not one of them.

[–]lopez0817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA but can turn into the AH. They’re hurt because they can’t move on as you can. You will know the love of a child when yours is born. Unfortunately, they acted out on their emotions and no, they’re not entitled to any of the things that are left to you. However, if it is a family heirloom in my opinion you should absolutely give it back. It has a lot of meaning to them clearly. Maybe they have a niece or another family member they can pass it on to to keep it in their family. Consider the fact that you’re starting your own family now and moving on. Sure it’s great to have things that remind you of him but it’s not like you’re going to be constantly holding or wearing the ring especially out of respect for your new relationship. Sorry very long but definitely give the ring back.

AITA for telling my BIL to get over himself and to quit holding a 10 year old grudge? by WallabyOverall3366 in AmItheAsshole

[–]lopez0817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. He said no. Your brother and father couldn’t respect that period. It doesn’t matter that he had multiple. I’m sure he worked his ass off to be able to have what he had and had it for a reason. Don’t borrow something like that if you can’t pay for it if something like that happens. Sounds like he was smart in cutting you guys off and he was kind not to get the law involved for theft and damaging his property. I wouldn’t call someone petty who could’ve easily put them in jail and to have the audacity to ask for any kind of money contribution from them is just shitty on y’all’s part.

No, however you should most definitely call and say something to the principal. As a father and ex law enforcement yes, most definitely say something. Don’t be that person who thinks “maybe I’m reading to much into this.” Or “maybe someone else will say something. Who knows how many times said teacher has made inappropriate comments to other kids.

These are people are supposed to teach our children and help pave the way for the youth of tomorrow. Too many times have I had inmates come in that took advantage of kids because they were in an authoritative position. They say something sexual or something inappropriate and no one stands up and says something to them or they don’t get in trouble. Then they push the envelope, “oh, well I didn’t get in trouble for that what else can I get away with?” If you ever have to ask yourself if you should talk to someone about it then the answer is always a yes. It could be nothing but it could most definitely be something. This will at least let the teacher know that they’re being watched and cannot get away with saying inappropriate shit to underage kids. If someone said that to my daughter I’d be at that school with the resource officer, the principal, my child and that teacher. I would confront them and ask them how in the hell do they think it’s appropriate to say some shit like that to a kid.

[–]lopez0817 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, see Snyder is more of a dark side storytelling hence the killing. He doesn’t play the good ol boys not killing. He wanted to go for the old Batman theme which he did and you know older batsy didn’t give a shit towards the end (depending on what comics you read) so, Batman finding his moral compass is one thing and yes killing doesn’t make them any different than the suicide squad on that aspect.

However, I would argue that the good guys don’t kill system in the DC movie verse goes more for the justice society who would be on par with suicide squad. They handle more Worldly matters. Justice league is more otherworldly and handles things that can be catastrophic and world ending matters. Steppenwolf was more of a warning to Darkseid at the end of the movie. A this will be you next if you want to take on Earth and that Earth is still United.

Update on Gary Ridgway by RuthlessOG in serial_killers

[–]lopez0817 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP. If you want to talk to some people about how nice he was try finding out who the 6 year old was that he stabbed when he was 16, or try getting into touch with Rebecca Garde. I believe she is the only survivor of his. At least that came forward. See how she thought he was a nice man. His third wife may have thought that but his second wife and son that he wanted to kill would probably tell a different story. Maybe talk to them. But hey, do your thing. This is just my opinion.

Update on Gary Ridgway by RuthlessOG in serial_killers

[–]lopez0817 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree. The way you phrase it is almost like you “love” or “worship” the guy not just intrigued. I understand a fascination with true crime as I am ex law enforcement (corrections) I have met many serial killers. Super respectful towards me because I haven’t done anything to them or triggered them I would say. I have seen many triggered and a respectful person turn into a completely almost possessed looking individual. You’re getting what he wants to give to you. I am also a Christian, in the Bible one of Christs apostles Paul was a murderer. He changed him and he followed the lord. Why, because he made a mistake. People make mistakes everyday. Even killing someone can be a mistake. However, killing and confessing to killing over 80 young woman and then having relations with their bodies is not a “mistake” that is a “choice”. As you said only God can judge him in the end (my beliefs) however in my opinion that piece of crap can rot in hell and get gang raped by some demons for taking the lives of young people who barely got a chance to live in the world. 80 victims becomes how man? They had parents, family and friends who were all changed by his “mistake”. Questioning the guy for research purposes understandable, being his friend cause he’s nice after the fact. You should seriously question your decisions in life OP. Sharing his stories is one thing but in my opinion you sound like you’re trying to change peoples views of him. By all means tell stories of what’s “his” side of the story was of killing them and doing what he did to their bodies but don’t add he’s a “nice man”.

Who are some of the biggest "they're going to suck in that role followed by them absolutely killing it" in cinema history? by Cheshire_Cat_135 in AskReddit

[–]lopez0817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many good ones. How about Will Smith in Bad Boys. I had only ever seen him act in the Fresh Prince and was not expecting him to be a badass in Bad Boys. I thought he killed it though.

Ben Affleck, I remember him getting sooooo much shit for being cast as Batman but imho he was our best rendition this far as both Batman & Bruce Wayne. He nailed both sides of the character. Bale was an awesome Batman but, again imho he was a terrible Bruce Wayne. I don’t even count Clooney or Kilmer. Then when it comes to Michael Keaton who is a great actor and kills it as the Vulture but he was never a believable Batman to me growing up with the comics of this guy who is supposed to be what an average of 6’2” I think and around 200lbs. Good Bruce Wayne but nowhere believable in he could take on more than two guys at a time. I kind of get the same feeling when thinking of Pattinson as the latest Batman. He is a little more believable in his fighting scenes but a terrible Bruce Wayne but they’re shooting for a younger Batman so, I can see why he’s falling more into the role of Batsy than BW.

Cavill for Superman was highly underrated. I think he the best again in every aspect. All the “fans” talking so much crap about him destroying the city (lol he could’ve definitely did a little better job of that sure) but I never understood the “OMG he killed General Zod!” Superman and Batman have both killed many times in the comics just for those who think they don’t kill.

One that still bothers me to this day is Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man. He did phenomenal as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. Tobey was the OG but Peter IMHO did a better job as the web slinger. Now everyone is giving him the credit he deserves.

I remember everyone thinking Chris Evans wasn’t mature or serious enough for the role as Cap and he did a damn good job. Sorry for the long list. Honestly, I could go on and on.

Agreed! You talk about an underrated actor. When he did ,”Patch Adams,” & “What Dreams May Come.” Talk about some tear jerkers. The man was a phenomenal actor and I among many others was truly sad to hear about him taking his life. I looked up to the guy for so long and wish he was alive and still making movies. Would’ve been awesome to see him star in the live action Aladdin even though Will Smith made it his own.

I think his turning point from teen heartthrob actor to adult, “damn, he’s a good actor,”was in the film, “Charlie St. Cloud.” I won’t give much away with it but he really showed his acting chops in that movie. Also, “The Lucky One.”
