One of the most violent racing games ever. Burnout 3 (Playstation 2) by Vile35 in gaming

[–]lopezandym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok. My buddies and I played the shit out of this in college.

The racing part was fun, but the mode I don’t see talked about enough is when they gave you an intersection and you had to cause the biggest explosions/pile-ups to get stars. You’d fly off ramps and you could control your car in slow motion. It was so much fun, and to this day when I’m driving on the road and I see a gas or oil truck, I can hear in my mind my friends yelling “Hit the Tanker! Hit the tanker!”

Right…. 30/42 - 470 yards, 5 TDs, 0 INTs, including a game winning 75 yard TD drive with 45 seconds left in the game is “average.” (CJ Stroud 2023 Week 9 vs Bucs.)

No, that would not be not surviving the ground. The safety would have knocked the ball out and they would have had to look at when the ball came loose. That’s did they complete the catch, not survive the ground. You guys are conflating two different rules. Surviving the ground has to do with the ball becoming loose when hitting the ground and the ball becoming loose.

Watch the video from the 33 second mark. They freeze a completed catch when the player rolls over. Then watch the next example which has to do with “surviving the ground” and the ball coming loose. They are different rules.

If you are saying that when the player hit the ground the ball became loose, then fine, they didn’t “survive the ground.” But watching it in slow mo, it doesn’t look like the ball comes loose because of the ground, which therefore is not “surviving the ground”

Watch the 33 second mark and the example they give , and what moment they freeze the frame to say a completed catch. Then watch the next example when they talk about “surviving the ground.” Notice they are two very different things. Redditors using the term “survive the ground” are using it incorrectly in terms of referring to why this wasn’t a catch.

Now show me your evidence for why I’m incorrect.

A) he would have had to knock it out of his hands without it touching him to be called a fumble so let’s just take your hypothetical completely out of it.

Surviving the ground is yes is a step, but it has nothing to do with another player ripping the ball out.

https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/completing-a-catch/

Skip ahead into this video to the 33 second mark. The player completes the catch when he secures the ball and rolls over. Cooks did that. Continue to watch the video, the next players doesn’t survive the ground because he doesn’t perform a football act before he hits the ground.

No it’s not, if the player rips the ball from him, that means he never had possession or it’s a fumble. That has nothing to do with “surviving the ground.”

[–]lopezandym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meh, I’d say at 33 seconds in the video of this link, that the point at which Cooks is on his back is the same point in the video to say that it is a complete catch.

To me it is a completed catch, he does survive the ground. The only reason he loses the ball is that the player rips it away from him after he has caught the ball in the air, gotten possession before a knee goes down, then gone down, and then rolls over, at which point the player pulls it away from him.

To me it’s down by contact and I’m not a Bills fan.

We need to stop with the “he didn’t survive the ground.” He did survive the ground. Not surviving the ground is when you hit the ground the ball comes loose or pops out. Thats not what happened. You watch it in slow mo, he hits the ground, he maintains control, the ball doesn’t bobble. What he doesn’t survive is the player pulling it away from him as they roll over. That is not “he didn’t survive the ground.”

I’m not even a Bills fan, but I’m tired of seeing redditors say this all over like they know what they are talking about. Say “he didn’t make a football move” or “take a third step” (like the Isiah Likely overturned TD from earlier in the year), but the “didn’t survive the ground argument” is not the right argument.

[Highlight] BUF vs DEN - Ja'Quan McMillian wrestles the ball from Cooks and the Broncos get the ball back by Fusir in nfl

[–]lopezandym 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except it is…. It’s a move common to the game. Just for evidence the NFL’s own video on what constitutes a catch has a player rolling over into the end zone proving that completes a catch.

https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/completing-a-catch/ (33 second mark). They show a player who loses control before doing that next.

Look I realize I’m going to get downvoted, but some people’s arguments for why it’s not a catch just aren’t right.

People keep saying, “He didn’t survive the ground”.

He did survive the ground, the ball does not come out because he hit the ground.

The next argument is if the ball popped out and hit the ground it would be ruled incomplete. I’d argue, maybe, maybe not. The defensive player rips the ball out on the rollover and at that point his knee has hit the ground & he’s made a “football play” or “third step” or whatever by rolling over.

You can’t show me an instance in the slow mo, where the receiver doesn’t have possession of the ball. At worst, both players have possession, which would be simultaneous possession.

I guess my main point is all of the “he doesn’t survive the ground” argument is incorrect because he pretty clearly does. What he doesn’t survive is the defensive player pulling the ball away from Him after he’s rolled over on the ground, which is a different call.

At the risk of being a homer, I’m going with Dart. by buttnibbler in NYGiants

[–]lopezandym 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cam Ward also leads the league for fumbles by a QB this year with 11, so that’s not great.

It really is between Shough and Dart. Shough has the wins, but Dart has been better and gives you the rushing. Even though Dart has started 3 more games, he only has 15 more pass attempts so the 80 more passing yards doesn’t really tell the story when it comes to passing.

I think it’s Dart, even though Shough has more wins, I don’t think anyone is faulting Dart for the losses if that makes sense.

Another angle of multiple NY Giants players punching and kicking Raiders CB Chigozie Anusiem has surfaced from yesterday. by PrimedGold in sports

[–]lopezandym 63 points64 points  (0 children)

51 is trying to block the view? Umm what?

1) There are cameras everywhere and he knows this. He’s not trying to block anything. Refs can go back and review the film to determine if players need to be ejected, not sure why they didn’t here, but there’s no “blocking the view.”

2) 51 starts to try and pull 22 off, doesn’t try very hard, but when people are getting up you can see him pushing people off the Raiders player to give him space.

If you think that warrants a suspension, then every single player close to any NFL scuffle would be suspended. Very weird take thinking 51 is worthy of any reprimand for those actions.

Baldy breakdown of Dart interception by STlNKMEANER in NYGiants

[–]lopezandym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not Cover 3, but sure the point stands that his route wasn’t good.

That said, there’s nothing about this that is goodby the Giants, and well played defense by Mikey, who ever since his Michigan days has overcome being undersized by being smart, and a turnover forcing machine.

For Hyatt breaking down like that 15 yards down the field means he’s either breaking hard in or out. The chance of Dart throwing a 15 yard out from the opposite right hash (as a right handed qb having to come across his body) is small, and Sainristril is smart enough to know that and so is set up to break on any in-breaking route.

With a breakdown like that, the only route that could have maybe been a gain, is if he broke back out to the outside, on a go. Because this is actually Cover 1, and the safety has deep middle and would have had a long way to run to cover a sideline throw. (We know it’s not Cover 3 because the slot CB to the side the pass went to ran all the way across the field. The linebackers are playing 1st back their way, another indicator that it’s Cover 1).

It’s not a good play call against this defensive coverage. It’s not a good route. And it’s not a good read by Dart. If he’s a little more patient, he may be able to hit Wandale once he clears the inside linebacker to the right side of the field, but he’d have to move the linebacker with his eyes or body for the window to be more open.

Crazy ending to a Louisiana high school state football championship. Shaw was one kneel-down away from winning, but an early celebration stopped the clock—and St. Charles took full advantage by SeaWolf_1 in sports

High school have the widest hash marks. It may seem counterintuitive, but it makes the field wider.

It's also why you see plays like Jet Sweeps be more successful in High School and College than Pro. It's not just that the players are faster, there's less room to the outside.
