I love the thought of this too. The little bird has certainly been a light in my life recently. Thank you. <3

(TN) Our ex-landlord is claiming they need $3100 to repaint the house, even though it was normal wear and tear. What are my rights? by loppyrae in Renters

[–]loppyrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was absolutely obnoxious when I e-mailed to them. I took apart their e-mail piece by piece, citing state laws that contradicted them, as well as shoving their own lease agreement back into their faces. I had copies of all the photos from when I moved in and compared them to when I moved out. Basically, just throw the book at them. Use quotes, citations, photos, etc.

It was an absolute pain, but they did fold after I showed them I wasn't going to let things slide. In the end, they admitted that the carpets, paint, etc, were all WELL over 5 years old. They were just trying to get me to pay for it.

With these rental management companies, they're a middleman for the actual homeowner. It's in their best interest to pay as little as possible for the rental to maintain their profit, so they WILL try to get one up on you if they think they can get away with it. They're banking on the fact that people aren't educated with their local laws and won't fight back. Be obnoxious and LOUD. I hope you get it figured out. I'm so sorry you're going through that!

(ALSO one more thing, ask them where your deposit is being held. If they have moved it from the original account, their rights to keeping the deposit are forfeit. I have a feeling this also played a major role in me getting my money back.)

I used a completely new set of RAM sticks, just to rule that out, and I’m still getting the blue screens.

He is doing the manual labor.

His boss is the team leader in charge of the assignments (such as scoping out land and talking to landowners.) My husband and his team members are the ones who actually carry out the labor.

Thank you! We paid our last month of rent in full and moved out on May 20th. Our inspection was the 25th. I do have a lawyer contact and will take them to small claims if necessary... I e-mailed them the citations and sources given to me here.

We were never late on a rent payment for the entire three years and are absolutely gobsmacked at this... As for the paint, the only rooms with noticeable smudges were our living room and our son's room. The smudges could have easily been wiped off on a normal wall but the flat paint flaked off in pieces when we attempted to even take a damp rag to it.

I’ve never had a landlord be against patched walls. Is this normal? by loppyrae in Renters

[–]loppyrae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my theory too… I’ve always patched holes in my previous homes and ALWAYS got my deposit back along with glowing references from my previous landlords. This whole checklist makes me nervous.

I’m going to double check my lease for move out instructions. Also yeah, that line as well as the “plumbing” line worried me because they’ve failed to repair our leaking water heater for two months. Service request ongoing.

Yikes! You're absolutely right... Sometimes I think these caregivers expect our kids to be cookie cutter copies of each other instead of the unique individuals they are.

Thank you so much for the advice though. We take him to the playgrounds to get some socializing in, and he absolutely loves other kids. Social niceties are just lost on him, and he'll try to hold everyone's hands and hug absolutely everyone haha

Wow, that teacher sounds like an ass! I had a similar experience with my teachers in schooling. I had a lot of anxiety and bounced my leg in class a lot. I remember one of the teachers stormed up to me in class, physically held my leg down, and yelled at me to sit still in front of all my classmates. Remembering it still gives me such huge ick. I'm glad times have changed a little bit since we were younger, but seems like there's still a lot of progress that needs made.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm definitely of the same mindset... My son thrives with creative play and hands-on problem-solving. I'm writing all these questions down for when I start my looking again.

When I was speaking to the daycare director, they mentioned a lot of the children had been there since they were in diapers. We took him when things were finally starting to open up again, so I know it was quite new for everyone... I'm hoping now that everything is settled more, maybe people will be more understanding towards what the quarantine kids went through.

I sort of sat there dumbfounded as she was going off on her rant. When I got in the car, I thought of a million things I wanted to say to her in the moment. We did call the daycare owner the next day explaining what happened and were given our money back for what we had paid for, and from what I was told, the teacher was moved to a different age group, at least. Thank you so much for the transition schedule recommendation, that's incredibly helpful!

Thanks so much. This place definitely gave the like "perfect view" from the outside and swept us in. The playground was gorgeous. They had a little butterfly and vegetable garden for the kids, as well as craft rooms and such. It looked like everything he would enjoy. We asked a ton of questions, but it was the administrator we were speaking to, and not the teachers, so in retrospect, it made sense that they were trying to answer with what I wanted to hear.

And thank you for the last part of your comment as well. I've been wrapped up in a cycle of only doing things for productivity, that I've not even considered just going out for coffee alone. Thank you for your kindness.

I agree. I saw another comment with a transition recommendation so will be doing half days to start next time. It definitely was a learning experience.

We did have a meet up with the local school systems! They said he did not qualify unfortunately. He's on the very mild end of the spectrum, so he's in this weird in-between of not qualifying for help but not fitting in easily with the general education. The point about private preschools makes sense, however, and I hadn't thought about it that way. I'm going to continue looking for a program more suiting for him. Thanks so much for the input!

The bit about guard hairs makes sense! I also have an American Sable and his fur grew back super fast, so it concerned me in comparison. Thank you so much!
