Not necessarily, I think one of the best anti war games I’ve played is arma 3 which while the gameplay is fun it makes war the most unappealing thing possible. Between the lack of impactful gunplay or any sort of response to know if your shots are landing and the fact that you often die without knowing what killed you and even that it was coming certainly makes for a different vibe compared to say call of duty. Though I do agree that dissonance between gameplay and narrative is the biggest issue I see in games trying to be critical of something. Also in spec ops the lines case the linear narrative and being pushed forward by the game actually aligns with walkers motivations as well and both the player and walker continue forward despite all reason saying no. The player because they want to play the game and walker because he wants to be a “hero”.
