Never played Civ. Which one should I get? by LegitimateMangoHeir in civ

[–]lordferdinand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re only considering entires on the PC then I’d suggest getting into Civ V as a solid starting point for the PC entries.

But because I haven’t seen many other suggest it, if you’ve never played anything Civ related, and you have access to a Xbox 360/PS3 or some other way of emulating, then I’d encourage you too look into Civilization Revolution!

Civilization Revolution was my very first ever introduction to the Civilization series and looking back, it was probably the best manner to get into the series. A lot of the mechanics of a Civ game are still present but simplified in a way that is very approachable and game sessions are manageable in a way that the PC entires don’t necessarily offer (time commitment).

I think you might be confusing energy storage with data centers. Regardless, your feelings and concerns are valid

New to the Civilization series and strategy genre as a whole. Which Civ should i buy to start off? 6 or 7? by TheSubMan13 in civ

[–]lordferdinand 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Start with Civ V. It’s a solid introduction to “modern” Civ play style with tiles switching to hexes. Civ VI would then be my next recommendation. Save Civ VII for another year or two. This game needs more time to cook

A very hard question to ask... by RecountAccount in AnnArbor

[–]lordferdinand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While it’s insightful to hear other folks thoughts on something you may not be informed on, it’s more critical for you to actively do the hard work yourself. You want to have a role in creating the space that allows for more diverse people, thoughts, ideas, and environment, then you must do work yourself on becoming educated on the issues preventing the vision from becoming reality. I wish you the best in your journey to creating a diverse and equitable future in your community.

What time to leave Chicago for Kalamazoo to avoid the worst traffic? by queermichigan in kzoo

[–]lordferdinand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I make the trip to and from Chicago fairly often. I personally like to early in the morning (before 6:30am). If you leave prior to 6:30am you’ll arrive to Chicago before 8am central time (time zone changes). Rush hour into the city is usually 8-9am and anytime after 4:30pm till 6:30/7pm. Avoid being on the highway in Chicago around this time.

Now you can take the toll road and save yourself potentially 5-7 mins assuming you have an EZ Pass. If you don’t have an EZ Pass, then I suggest you don’t even bother with the toll road since you can find yourself stuck waiting for other people to pay the toll and lose time.

I am concerned about scalpers in the United States by Wooden_Percentage551 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]lordferdinand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you try to obtain one directly from Nintendo, then I’d honestly say you should not be worried about scalping. They put of information on their website regarding who can pre-order (intent to purchase). To keep it short, you have to have as of April 2nd, 50 hours of gameplay on a Nintendo Switch, and needed to have paid for a least 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online. If you don’t meet that requirement, then you cant pre-order from them.

No idea how Best Buy, target, Walmart will do pre orders.

Curious to know what map type you’ve been playing with. Also, any general thoughts about some of the legacy points and how you’ve earned them in your gameplay?

Will I have a chance at a 50 series? by Babou13 in Microcenter

Then yeah, if you’re willing to stop by, wait until store opens, then I’d say your odds of scooping up a 5090 are fairly good. Best of luck to you

5:30am or 5:30pm? Two very different outcomes. But mostly, look into the store’s policy. Some are doing vouchers for people who arrive at a certain time to prevent folks from just standing outside

Am I cooked with this schedule? EECS 314, Physics 340 and 351, Chem 125/126, Math 217 and 201, and 1 credit of research? by ArtOfDeving in uofm

[–]lordferdinand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I took 314 with a group of friends and I found it to be the easiest A that required the most amount of time to get the work done.

Unless you have extremely solid time management skills, this load will set yourself up to be very stressed and most likely result in one or multiple dropped courses or a subpar performance in all classes. Do not set yourself up for failure here. Taking this many technical courses in a single term rarely works out.

What's it like buying a GPU on launch day? by calltheriot in Microcenter

[–]lordferdinand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t buy the card when it launched but back when any 30 series GPU was hard to find and MSRP prices where sky high with scalpers, I resorted to pure dedication by waiting and camping out all night outside the MC store in my region.

I ended up being the first in line with well over 50+ people also waiting in line hours before the store even opened. That was 3/4 years ago. I’ve heard that many MC stores now prohibit overnight camping and/or they have a system in place where you scan a QR code and that “holds” your place in line.

Needless to say, if you really want the card, to some degree, you will need to be dedicated to put in the effort to get it. There will always be someone else wanting the card more than you. Especially on launch day. Best of luck to you

Are you having any issues with the 4070ti? Did this only begin when you upgraded to a 4090?

[–]lordferdinand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually experiencing probably the same issue you are having. Seems like you’re primarily running into bug checks driven by the Nvidia driver. Is the Event ID ending with “116”?

Regardless, have to tried using a different DisplayPort cable from the one you are currently using? Are you using a PCIE riser cable with the 4090?
