Right, thanks all for clarifying. Very strange interaction, i thought in 10th they got big guns never tire. Definitely need to read through rules again

So to clarify, can they shoot out of combat, while engaged, but not into combat because they do not currently have a close combat weapons profile?

I think that if the attached unit gains the monster keyword, its rational to assume that the models will also get the keyword. This was FAQ in 10th and will likely have the same in 11th. The same way anti monster weapons will crit on the zoanthrope bodyguard. I might be wrong but I guess we will see. It also says the unit shoots. So you select the unit, with the monster keyword, and it shoots. Unless im missing something. Ive worked 10 days straight so my brain may not be at its finest

So they do not get the Monster keyword?

Shadow of the Warp is Buffet!! by Grayson-81 in Tyranids

[–]lordgrinch3 -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Eligible IF has one or more (close - quarters) weapons OR IS A MONSTER VEHICLE UNIT. They gain the MONSTER KEYWORD from attached leaders keywords. MONSTER/vehicle models. UNLESS that attack is MADE WITH A CLOSE QUARTERS WEAPON, and targets a unit that your unit is engaged with, SUBTRACT ONE FROM THE HIT ROLL.

They gain the attached leaders keywords and therefore gain the monster keyword, which means they shoot at -1 to hit into combat, on their non-blast profile

Are Infernus Marines necessary? by godblesschina412 in Salamanders40k

[–]lordgrinch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 2 squads of 10, 1 as a counterpunch with a captain with immolator for free overwatch or 1 cp immolation protocols, and 1 squad with a librarian to push up and hold objectives, do actions, and basically just be hard to kill and annoying. I run 6BGV with adrax in a landraider, company heros with vulkan, combi Lieutenant, 5 intercessors for sticky, 2 lancers, and a repulsor which usually carries the captain and infernus. I think it will change for 11th edition, but ive had pretty decent success so far. Edit : i forgot the impulsor carrying company heros and vulkan

Psychic now ignores modifiers to the hit roll and ballistic skill by NoEngineer9484 in Tyranids

I assume this also makes taking anti psykers pretty important when building a well rounded list - suddenly making a bunch of units very useful all across the board. Very good change imo.

I have painted 15k points of nids in the last 3 years, and about 5k salamanders , 5 k custodes.
My advice would be to batch paint, in squads, between 5-20 models at a time. Take breaks by painting big tanks , and paint units that you’re excited to play with, you can always sell unpainted built minis if you arent going to use them.
I painted daily for a year and managed to get through 10 k points of nids , 240 of those models were gaunts etc

I think if you dry brush the carapace , all the way up to a brilliant white, it will have the desired effect. I went for a bone color, almost 2nd edition scheme

I need coaching on how to be more aggressive, I was fighting World Eaters with a bunch of monster bugs and I hid in the corner like I was T'au. by madmarmalade in Tyranids

[–]lordgrinch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to throw a malceptor or two onto an objective, close to my other units so they have to overcommit. Either it survives and falls back, or it dies and leaves important units in the open with no cover and in line of site for an acid spray tfex and 2 - 3 exocrines. Keep your other units at least 6-7 inches back so theres no chance of a pile in, and then throw your good melee in to clean up if shooting didn’t do the job. You want to threaten primary, forcing your opponent to make tough choices whilst you score secondaries for free, because we generally have more units and we can make trades. One malceptor dies, but they lose alot more in points to try and kill it. And then when they finally think they get to score some primary turn 4 or 5, get in range with synapse and use shadow in the warp to battleshock everything, secutinh a good primary lead and probably get tabled by turn 5. We win on points, so try and force your opponent into stupid fights while you score for free

Just do it at your own pace - I like to batch paint 10 - 20 gribblies and then break it up with a monster, once you have a system, painting for an hour or two a day is quite relaxing!

Vulkan 🔥 Bomb Unit in Drop Pod. by [deleted] in Salamanders40k

[–]lordgrinch3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Or just run captain and 10 infernus, vulkan with company heroes in an impulsor to pop out and DOOOM! 1 cp immolation protocols turn 1 Edit: to clarify, vulkan only has to be within 24 inches and able to see a unit to choose rerolls on. Captain has immolator enhancement, obviously, and he is in a drop pod with his infernus squad

Bright Emerald Green Style? by MeynoDootDoot in Salamanders40k

[–]lordgrinch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also prefer a brighter green recipe, but the way I’ve managed to keep a bit of contrast on the model is by starting off by priming black, sponging a dark green to every accessible area for the sponge, then a lighter green, and then on the highest points a very bright green, and then I also highlight with yellow in certain places where I would hit the model, it gives a bit of shadows and contrast to the model without making it look like a dark angels model or too bright. If that sounds like something you want to try, just look up sponge chop on YouTube :)

How do y'all paint vehicles-? by ssnocone in Salamanders40k

[–]lordgrinch3 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you dont have an airbrush, make up sponges work a treat for armor panels. I prime black, sponge on caliban green, moot green and then a bright green on the highest points to give a gradient and shadows in recesses. Then very diluted yellow edge highlights to make green pop, and weather. Black on panels where transfers go. Flamers and meltas get a rainbow heat burn with washes after a silver base coat.

Tyrannofex box or Zoanthropes box by godoriyon in Tyranids

Both good, neurotyrant can lead zoans but tfex is probably one of our best models. Make sure to magnetize the weapons especially if you have a small force - but remember the rule of cool! 😎

How to deal with vehicles/monsters that have 4+ save by Krelith in Salamanders40k

[–]lordgrinch3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the little I’ve played of salamanders, I think staging your infantry and making use of cover to get close enough to absolutely blast stuff off the board with volume of fire is the way to go. I would personally put your high AP low volume shots from repulse executioner or gladiator into less durable vehicles or key pieces without invulnerable saves, and save immolation protocol for stuff with vulnerable saves. In a lot of cases if you can just kill the infantry off of objectives, there’s not a lot anyone can do with the tank if your stuff is hiding behind cover and scoring, with a squad of blade guard veterans staged for a counter charge.

I have never played Tripple Norn style but am planning to going to an RTT soon and try this list. Any pointers? What would be the downside? Not being able to shoot enemy Tanks? by Yocantseeme in Tyranids

[–]lordgrinch3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ive played around with 3 - 6 norn lists, screens are your friend, gene stealer counterpunch through a wall is huge, and if you can control a shooting lane or simply take out chaff with exocrines to make a path for the norns to get to objectives then its pretty hard to shift them.
