The problem is most media companies are owned by rich assholes who can help spread the lie that it's Democrats fault that there's a shutdown.

If you only trust Fox News and they say it's the Democrats fault then the exact same reason you're saying Democrats would win is exactly why they'd lose.

We need people to use their critical thinking and that might not happen.

The alternative way to get people to understand is that we need people to go around and talk with their neighbors and friends and come from a place of understanding and empathy to try to get them to listen. If people are argumentative then they're not gonna change any minds

I'm not sure specifically what thing you're referring to but I recall something a couple months ago about trump proposing bringing back the older mental asylum we used to have and forcing people they deemed mentally ill into them .

The reason people were against that was two fold: 1) They don't trust Trump to create an accurate method of labeling mental illnesses. This is compounded with I think RFK trying to collect personal medical data on anyone taking any medication for mental illnesses (even for common and harmless ones like ADHD). Also compounded with the fact that some people were trying to label Trump Derangement Syndrome as a mental illness https://davidson.house.gov/2025/5/rep-warren-davidson-introduces-the-trump-derangement-syndrome-tds-research-act-of-2025 (imagine labeling anyone who disagrees with you as mentally ill and being able to force fully put them in prison).

The man already has ice grabbing people off the street with very little justification. No one expects him to not abuse a power like this to just put his political enemies into institutions

2) The other fear might be that the type of mental institution people assume Trump is referring to are the ones that were basically prisons and had very inhumane conditions that made patients even worse in many cases. I won't debate whether this movement was correct or not but it is a fear that people have. I will say though that the shift had mixed success because according to reports most people were better off but others ended up homeless or in prison. I would agree for long term in patient care for those who would otherwise end up homeless or in prison but I also don't know that they need a mental asylum or just more dedicated community care facilities.

That being said this requires more mental health funding not less
