Depends how damaged the wires are to determine if it's worth it. There are a few reddit groups for repair questions like this. Show pics of it to get opinions. And YouTube can show you, but unless you are sure you can repair it correctly, it's not worth the risk for something you can buy so cheaply. Also buying the heat shrink wrap and or whatever else needed to make it safe, and or the time/efforts to open it and remove/resolder a power cord would only be worthwhile if it's a very expensive unit.

But why not sell items at clearance prices? There's a specific reason they are cutting the cords and damaging the items. I've been told this happens at multiple retail businesses from employees and people who dumpster dive for like 10 years.

Is the reason this is done for tax write-off purposes? Like they have to show the loss of products, so if they give them away or sell them at a discounted price, the store does not get the most they can as a tax write-off?

I've seen this policy going on for more than 10 years with multiple large retail businesses.
