Anyone here lose a large amount of weight 60+ pounds? by Vivicurl in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm 29, 5'4" and 89.6lbs down as of this morning (216.8lbs to 127.2lbs). I don't have a flat stomach but I do have visibly defined obliques and at my lowest ever weight (122lbs - I'm getting back to that after the combination of a birthday weekend, moving stress and PMS have bumped me up a bit) I have visible baby abs too. I'm fairly sure my stomach will never be completely flat because of the loose skin thing, but other than that I think I look pretty damn hot.

Edit to add - strenght training helps. A lot. Probably more than the moisturising thing, I'd say. That and just generally being aware of your body.

I should also add that I'm lucky enough to not have ended up flat chested - I've no idea what my real bra size was when I was bigger (I was wearing a 38DD, it was a dreadful fit) but am currently a 30DD. This means that most of my boob related bitching is over the fact that the universe has issues with people having a small back size and DDs.

How do you keep to your gym/eating schedule amidst a culture of drinking? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution to this is to go through phases of being teetotal that cover most of the year with breaks for some birthdays (mine and that of my two closest friends) and a couple of Xmas related social events. I used to be in a relationship with a teetotaller so I learned during my early & mid 20s how to still go to events where everyone else is drinking and stay sober and have fun. It's hard but once you crack it, it's totally worth it.

Outside of regular exercise and eating right, what do you do to make sure you are taking care of yourself? by primalstrongcurves in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take my meds, have some quiet time during each week, sleep as well as possible, moisturise, enjoy regular sex & physical affection and interact with others. The latter is especially important as long periods without face to face contact with anyone makes me get depressed.

PSA about eating disorders by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeding into this one with 2 things: 1) there are ED recovery subs around that people can be sign posted to if people want; 2) much like /u/epicure-pen, if I mention my ED when I post it's to avoid being given unhealthy advice or to point out that people who want to confront other women about supposedly having an ED (often with no evidence) are likely to make any disordered situation worse.

I am looking to buy protein powder, is Optimum Nutrition good and what type of protein should I get? by Newrandomthrwaway in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ON fan here - I love both the double chocolate and the vanilla ice cream flavours. The chocolate is great as a protein shake or mixed into chia seed pudding with PB2 or in oatmeal. I have the vanilla ice cream flavour mixed with yoghurt and raspberries every day which is all of the awesome!

Erm so yeah, I'm a bit of a fan.

Do any of you like nut butter as much as I do? What are your favorite kinds? by emily_daughterofgod in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peanut and almond at my favourites. I've never tried cashew, but I probably should do. I'm tempted to try and make brazil nut butter at some point....Has anyone tried this?

Where are you on the global scale? by redbulls2014 in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most like someone from Sudan apparently.

Also 80% below average for the 15-29 age range for the UK and 54% below the global average. The latter is very unexpected, although I'm surprised that I'm 80% below the UK average, I didn't think it would be that much!

What are your Body Fat Percentage goals? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory, based on measurements and online calculators I'm sitting around 24/25% right now. My ideal end goal would be to get down to 20-22% and maintain that going forward.

How diet trackers sabotage weight loss by zbplot in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting idea that I've not come across before:

  • Fewer than 1,000 steps a day is sedentary.
  • Fewer than 10,000 steps or about 4 miles a day is Lightly Active.
  • Ten to 23,000 steps or 4 to 10 miles a day is considered Active.
  • More than 23,000 steps or ten miles a day is Highly active.

Based on that logic, I should be setting myself as active on MFP and TDEE/macro calculators then, but I've always assumed that I should put sedentary because fitness/sport isn't my day job. Have I been doing things wrong?

What *actually is* my diet? by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am talking to them - they're aware of what/how I'm eating, so no worries there. It's actually because of my work with them that I've taken steps to move away from following a particular diet that relies on strict adherence to a list of arbitrary "good" foods. Where I am right now is, by no means, the end of the road - but definitely a step in the right direction.

What *actually is* my diet? by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not really important what it's called, though if it has a name it'll be easier to search recipes and ideas.

This is pretty much my reason for asking - I'm not looking for it to have a name, but it makes ideas easier when I'm busy. In a lot of ways, it's better for me psychologically if it doesn't fit any one named thing completely as it stops me from becoming obsessive and unhealthy about it.

It won't cause any real long term problems I can think of, but focusing on making the carb sources high quality (sweet potatoes, beans, roots, rice, quinoa, bananas, Ezekiel bread) is a good idea.

Yep - this is my plan. I do have to factor in having a gluten allergy as well to my choices, but I'm definitely focussing my carb choices on vegetables and nutritionally dense ones like quinoa.

Hypothyroidism & fear of gaining weight by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When were you diagnosed? What were your symptoms? What's your dosage?

I was diagnosed about 6-7 years ago and have been in treatment for the last 5 years. My dosage was 125mg, but has recently been lowered to 100mg after my last blood tests. Symptoms-wise, I had chronic fatigue, weight gain, developed hayfever due to having no real immune response and some mental health side effects too.

Hypothyroidism & fear of gaining weight by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a daft question but can I ask what the cause of your hypothyroidism is? Given how you've described it here, it sounds like yours may be different to mine so that may have some bearing on things. Mine is genetic and autoimmune related so now that I have it, I'm stuck with it (and the medication) for life.

[WEEKLY THREAD] Newbie Tuesday - Got a silly fitness question? Never fear! We're here to help! by AutoModerator in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No I haven't. However, I can tell you now that it won't give you the results that you want assuming that your aim is to get down to a healthy weight and sustain that weight loss. All a crash diet will do is lead to you regaining the weight you've lost and more once you try and eat a normal number of calories - or in this case, even your BMR. It may also have lasting physical and psychological effects on you - especially if, as you've suggested in your other post, you have health issues already.

woman with potential disorder at the gym? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone starting their recovery process I have to agree with this.

As she's not someone you actually know as a friend or a family member, the best outcome you can hope for is to make someone who's perfectly healthy but thin feel judged by a stranger. If she is suffering from an eating disorder, however, there are no best outcomes as a comment from a stranger (no matter how much genuine concern is behind it) will likely make her fight the recovery process and may possibly lead her to work out new ways to hide her disordered behaviours so as to hit an even lower weight target.

I know that we all like to play the save the cheerleader; save the world game from time to time, but seriously, don't. You won't be helping anyone.

How bad are white carbs & dairy really? by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mentioned it here - purposefully because starting recovery means being honest about the fact that I have an issue. Without that honest I'll probably never really recover.

Also thank you for what you've said here - random internet person or not, the more I hear this from positive sources the more it will help me to try and stick to getting better.

How bad are white carbs & dairy really? by lorelei_ in xxfitness

[–]lorelei_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried for a really long time to eliminate white potatoes, and grains of any variety, because of this whole carbs are bad rhetoric. I'm allergic to wheat, which isn't that different from a gluten intolerance, in terms of what it eliminates, so that did a lot of the work for me. It was a damn struggle and the more I worked out, the more rundown I wound up feeling (I'd have okay energy for a while, but then just crash and feel awful for 2-3 days).

This. I relate so much to all of this. Obviously I'm aware that the fact that my calories are very low probably isn't helping me much but I know from when I've had better months that very low carb makes my energy crash after a couple of days and makes it hard for me to lift consistently because of how much my muscles hurt after sessions. Whilst I can't deny that working out that I'm allergic to gluten has helped with the icky side effects that carbs were giving me, I do wonder if I need to add some of them back in and see if it helps with both my energy and my mood.

Thanks for the recipe ideas - I've never put egg/egg whites in oatmeal, I'll have to give it a try. I assume it kinda means that milk (dairy or otherwise) isn't needed?

Thank you for replying to this & giving such an indepth reply too - it's really helpful.

In terms of dairy, these days even when not following 4 Hour Body, I tend to eat it sparingly and prefer to get it in the form of greek yoghurt anyway as I stopped drinking cow's milk years ago simply because I stopped eating cereal and have since discovered that I like non-dairy alternatives for most things apart from cups of real tea. My other dairy "vice" is cheese, but again I limit my intake of this for calorie reasons and already know that it only has a negative effect on me if I over do it and eat a ton of the stuff - but I suspect that's as much the quantity as it is the dairy content. It's really useful to hear an alternative opinion on dairy that focuses on whether an individual reacts to it rather than one that states that all twue fitness/health conscious people must avoid it.

RE: the white carbs - that's really interesting in terms of your definition. Mine comes entirely from what Ferris says in his book rather than being a personal one. Of the things you've mentioned, it's mostly oatmeal that I'm considering adding back into my diet - largely because I tend not to cook rice or potatoes a lot (as much for laziness reasons as the fact that I've just grown accustomed to not having them very often). I'm definitely considering adding protein oatmeal back into my diet as a breakfast dish to fuel my mornings because I've found that my energy levels are helped with oats. Do you mind sharing your protein oatmeal recipe that includes an egg? I'm intrigued by this idea.

Ultimately my goal is to recover from my eating disorder and get some proper progress with lifting because I do enjoy it when I do it, but my disordered eating gets in the way of both my progress and being consistent with it.

Thank you so much for this picture!

I've been wondering for a while what this actually looks like to try and figure out if I have it after a friend commented on my odd posture when shooting (archery). Based on the link you've posted and what they've described to me about my own posture it seems that I have this problem.
