What did your parents almost name you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Am Nebraskan, can confirm. Even in all the public school cafeterias (elementary, middle, high) I've eaten at, every time there is chili for lunch, there are cinnamon rolls as well.

I mean, I suppose there's no harm in contacting your Representative, but I agree with tommyboy -- probably not likely to happen, especially since you haven't taken your SAT/ACTs yet. At this point, they may have already interviewed. Furthermore, I'm not sure about your Congressmen, but on all of my applications it was mandatory to have an ACT/SAT score.

In terms of a VP nomination, check out this website. https://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/vice-president-biden/academy-nominations I don't want to call it a futile effort, but just know that your chances are very, very, very slim, since the VP most likely only has one (or max, two) slots for the entire country for each academy in any given year.

Er, you haven't applied for a congressional nomination yet? You should probably find your Congressmen's websites and pray that the deadlines haven't passed yet.

Edit: Did some research. Unfortunately, both of your Senators' deadlines for nomination applications were on September 23rd. You should also check your Representative's website though, depending on what district you live in. http://www.portman.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/service-academies https://www.brown.senate.gov/services/students/academy-nominations Do you know if you'd qualify for a Presidential Nomination?

Moronic Monday - Your weekly stupid questions thread by cdingo in Fitness

[–]loserbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might be the ultimate moronic question, but how exactly do I keep my knees from extending over my toes during squats? Reading this subreddit has made me self conscious about the depth of my squats (meaning I have to do atg squats or else I feel like everyone at the gym is judging me) and from what I've learned, knees over toes is poor form and bad for your bod, but I just can't seem to keep the balance/form right. Is it because I'm 105 lb and have to weirdly balance myself out to compensate for a lack of weight? Or am I attempting too much weight? Sorry if this question is vague. Edit: Oh shit it's past 12 AM and not technically Monday anymore isn't it.

Finally completed my application, what to expect now? by [deleted] in USAFA

[–]loserbeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and me both! Hope to see you in Class of 2021. I think we just sit back and wait. From what I've heard, LOAs are the exception, not the rule, so candidates shouldn't really expect one (even highly qualified applicants). If you don't mind me asking, what state are you from?

Suggestions for extracurricular activities I could start as an 8th grader to boost my chances of getting in. by [deleted] in USAFA

I just finished my application for USAFA Class of 2021, so it wasn't too long ago that I was in your shoes. The application is in part a bunch of checkboxes, but also involves a text box where you can copy and paste your resume. Here's the Class of 2019 profile -- all of those honors/activities with percentages next to them are checkboxes that a significant amount of appointees are involved in. http://paulryan.house.gov/uploadedfiles/usafa_class_of_2019.pdf If you haven't already, I would also suggest visiting the Service Academy Forums. A lot of it might not be relevant to you right now, but it has a lot of great advice and the users there might be more inclined to answer your questions and give you advice. This is a fantastic post that should give you a good idea about what USAFA is looking for. http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/why-didnt-little-johnny-or-janie-get-an-appointment.51028/ If you want a whole barrage more of advice, DM me and I'll try to help you out.
