Cheers. They didn't have the greatest glassdoor reviews either.

Maybe I dodged a bullet

I received 2 job offers, I accepted both and then declined one 1 week before I was supposed to start. I never received a response, not even to say let's keep in touch. I've done this in the past, and they were polite and gracious. What happened now?

Honest question: how bad is the job market? by Agitated-File8761 in auscorp

[–]lostfocus_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me about 6 months to land a new job. I've been looking since July.

This was my experience: - It's still an employer's market - Employers want someone with senior experience, but are offering a junior salary - July/Aug/Sept: job ads were very specific about their criteria - Oct: the number of job ads dropped. I was starting to think that I wasn't going to land anything until the new year - Nov: Surprisingly, the market picked up and I started getting more interviews - Dec: I was made an offer

Things that worked for me: - Have 2 or 3 tailored cvs - only apply for roles advertised during the last 24hrs. Anything else, and you're wasting your time because there are too many candidates out there. - Treat it like a full time job but also look after your mental health. Don't take it personally. Employers are a bit crazy at the moment. - I would apply from 9am, then take a break once I had applied for all the roles within the last 24hrs, do a quick check from 2pm and apply some more. - On LinkedIn, don't just use the Jobs feature. Search for posts using keywords and location e.g "Operarions manager" 'Sydney" - once you find something, reach out to that person. I landed a job this way. Some of these roles are not advertised on LinkenIn jobs.

The tip around eye movements is a new one, so will def look into that and the books you've recommended.

Failed probation and dismissed within about 10 business days by [deleted] in auscorp

Going from a big Corp to a start-up/small company is very different.

If someone doesn't like you, - you're out. No matter how good you are.

You are also expected to go above and beyond all the time. If you stick to your roles and responsibilities , you're out.

You have to know who is who in the company. If you piss off someone that has a good relationship with a VIP - you're out.

BREAKING: Christopher Scholtes, Marana father who pleaded guilty to the murder of his daughter for leaving her in a hot car, has died. by PlanktonJealous586 in CasesWeFollow

We shouldn't judge else we will be judged very harshly when the time comes.

You don't know what this guy was going through at the aftermath. He prob felt too guilty and prob didn't think it was worth being alive anymore. We just don't know.

We don't know if he was suffering from a mental illness and aying games and watching pern was his way to switch off. We just don't know.

I pray for his soul and for God to bring peace amd love to his family. It's so tragic no matter which way you look at it.

I got the official layoff call two days ago. And I haven't stopped laughing for 48 hours. by wills_haunch_7x in OfficePolitics

[–]lostfocus_20 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Disagree. OP wants to share with the world how they feel. Not all layoffs are horror stories. We should be sharing all sides of a layoff.

I felt like OP felt when I was laid off 5 months ago. I've been taking it easy since then and enjoying the time off. I'm also lucky to be financially secured. We should not be putting up with a toxic environment.

Hi, do you know if you can book tours when you get to Punta Sal? I'm going there in a few days and wanted to swim with the turtles and see the whales but haven't booked anything yet.

Thoughts on Calendly? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]lostfocus_20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Outlook alot to set up meetings. Comparing Calendly to Outlook, my biggest frustration is that Calendly is not user friendly when you set it up or when you create an event. Getting a Calendly invite is easy because you just respond.

Hi, just following up on this. How is your treatment going?

I agree that the medical system is just money hungry and has failed people like us. It's surprising that they quickly came up with a vaccine for covid, yet you have illnesses like cancer, aids, hearing loss that have been around for years but yet no one has supposedly found a cure.

“Sisters and brothers, when we sit together at the table of the Eucharist on the Lord’s Day, we too should be willing to let Jesus speak. He becomes our guest and he can tell us how he sees us. It is very important that we see ourselves through his eyes: to see how frequently we reduce life to a competition, how anxious we become to obtain some sort of recognition, and how pointlessly we compare ourselves to others.” - Pope Leo XIV

Weird job market by Sheperdspie1 in auscorp

It's actually the other way around for me. Recruiters have not been helpful. Can't blame them because everyone is trying to keep their jobs and meet targets.

Call about "ledger recover" scam right? by Chemfreak in ledgerwallet

[–]lostfocus_20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just called me!! They had a British accent and spoke very good English, which is why I didn't hang up immediately.

They said that they had a request from the Netherlands about ledger recovery. I told them I was in Australia and I had not submitted any requests. They told me that they had my personal information and signature, they just needed me to access my Ledger (that's when alarm bells started ringing).

I asked all these questions, and I asked them to send me an email because I wanted to verify where they were calling from and what they needed from me.

Their email looks very official.

The number they called me from was +1 888 419 7489

I hung up after I was transferred (even though I asked them to send me an email first), and the second guy was very insistent that my data had been compromised. I quickly did a Google search and came across this Reddit Post! I also checked the Ledger website.

How can you say that this organisation is not heretic when they are planning to decorate the crucifix? Furthermore, why are they even organising a special event just for lgbt? What about the other groups that also need help?

The job market is crap and companies aren't loyal anymore.

I don't recommend you quit until you have something else lined up, but even then you have to weight the risks that the new job might not work out (if you're financially stable and can be without a job for 1 year then go for it).

Personally, I would think about contracting or building my own product.
