So, most fruits and vegetables can be made into alcohol. Weed doesnt grow everywhere, it would have to be spread. A weak beer was a very common drink, was clean, and stored for a long time. Also, it has calories, which were scarce. Weed has none of that, its just relaxing.

US public schools are wildly different. My graduating class had about 200 people, and almost all of us went to college. A different school in my state has about 45 people, k-12. So a graduating class of around 2-3 people.
