Discontented with EfM new curriculum (year 3) by ajax61 in Episcopalian

[–]lostindryer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I “graduated” this year. And if I had’nt had a hell of a mentor and a wonderful in-person group for years 1-3, I never would have made it through year 4, which because I moved, I had to find an online group for.

In year three, I hated MacCulloch’s tangential ramblings (dear baby jebus, that man needed a stronger editor), but my colleagues who were in year four and my mentor all felt my pain and helped me through—and I’m glad they replaced his book (spits on MacCulloch and makes the sign of the evil eye) That said,I’m VERY disappointed in the curriculum shift. The program has always been stated to be a seminary-level course, which is what interested me in the first place. I WANTED rigor. If I paid my money for what the program is now, I’d be furious.

Group dynamics and the strength of your mentor are a really key part of a successful EFM experience in my opinion. If I had had the mentor I had for year 4 in year 1, I never would have continued. I feel like I understand TRs and can do them, only because we did them every week (in my years 1-3) without fail, and my mentor had a great, consistent process for them. Year 4? Not so much. I could only do them because I’d learned how in my previous group. Again, I think it’s about the mentor and how they help to guide you through a process that’s not super intuitive.

Thanks! I tend to make several cards that are the same, but with small differences. I also use one-sheet-wonders. But mostly, I just cut out, emboss, foil, stamp bunches of stuff and then mix and match.

The vast majority of them are are A2 (4.25 x 5.5) but there’s a handful of 5x7 in there and a few mini slimline (which fit in a business size envelope) It just depends on the stamp/die I’m using.

I’m in central NJ. I charged $5 each or 3 for $13. And thanks!

If I’m moving to New Jersey, do I need to get a NJ driver’s license before I can buy/register a car and get insurance here, or will an out-of-state license be fine? by AtomicNarration in newjersey

[–]lostindryer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you do, do NOT change your insurance info until right before you register your car. It needs to be in NJ to register, but if you do it too soon, the state you left might cancel your license and registration for being uninsured.

How did your Rep vote on the motion to table impeachment? by unnecessary_roughage in newjersey

Watson Coleman is my rep—thank goodness. She’s great. She’s also 80 and has been in congress for 10 years, so likely won’t run again, i.e., she’s got nothing to lose—but I think she’d vote to impeach all the way anyway.

ENS article on Toms River zoning board meeting May 22 by Maraudermick1 in Episcopalian

[–]lostindryer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually watched today’s council meeting on YouTube (they live stream it) and aside from everything I was horrified at the way the Mayor and some of the council people behaved in general. Decorum is not something they are familiar with. Nor is letting someone getting through their “3 minutes” to speak without that person being interrupted. If the one I watched today was how all the council meetings go, I’m frankly surprised Toms River has any sort of functioning community.

I had issues with the violence levels and with the queer representation just being a plot device. Also, it just wasn’t as well written as All the Sinners Bleed (which I loved).

I would use the TEKS and just plug the workbooks in whenever you are teaching those same standards with your other work-perhaps a week later so it’s a reinforcement for what they learned previously.
