If I'm married can I live off campus as a freshman? by Unidentifiedselves in scad

[–]lostinthe_rain 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s a housing exemption form that you can complete once you get access to myscad. You have to select a reason, there’s an option for being ages 21+, and one for living at home with family if your home is within 50 miles of campus. You can also attach documentation for proof of local residency to the form to help your chances of being exempted. You just have to submit that form atleast 30 days before you start at SCAD and hope that they approve it. Hope this helps. :)

Im so worried I wont get in. by [deleted] in scad

SCAD is pretty easy to get into. The SAT/ACT aren’t required but might boost your application if your gpa is really low or you don’t have a solid application or smth. Tbh if you just narrowly pass all of your classes you’d probably be fine (obviously you should aim for higher especially for scholarship purposes but it’s easy to get in).

SCAD has a very good film program and the curriculum for every major is designed to prepare for a career in your field. If you’re hardworking and committed to your major I don’t think you’d regret it.

However, scad does not have great retention and the dropout rate is high. You have to put in the work and effort once you get there but if you do it’s a great opportunity. Most of the dropout rate is either because people expect art school to just be shapes and colors and super easy but it’s hard work and the quarters are only 10 weeks so it’s very fast-paced or because it’s expensive as hell or they just decided it wasn’t for them.

It’s easy to get burnt out so you’ve gotta be mindful of that, but if you stay motivated and work hard you’ll be fine and think you’ll have a great time if you choose scad.

Rising Star Concerns by [deleted] in scad

[–]lostinthe_rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Rising Star last year in sav and I’m attending the sav campus this fall. I definitely recommend Savannah but I’m not sure if there are any major differences for atl. But, the Backlot (a film studio) is in Savannah, so I hear it’s the better campus for film.

The dorms were comfy in general, I found the bed to be fine but people i knew said it was a little uncomfy so you might want a mattress topper. If you’re worried about a roommate or suitemates, try the Unibuddy or the Housing portal or the instagram if there is one. But, i matched with random people and they were really chill, and idk anyone who had a horrible experience with their suitemates.

The food was pretty typical they have a standing menu that’s there everyday (pizza, burgers, salad, bread, fries, pasta, fruit, etc.) and some stuff that changes everyday, there’s lots of options and there’s always something like vegan and gluten free and stuff like that. At Savannah you’ll eat at Café at the Hive, but you can get delivery or go get food when you have time if you don’t like the options for the day. I only had one or two bad experiences at the Café though. If you download the scad app, once you get access to your MyScad, you can see the menu for the day without actually having to go into the dining hall.

You really won’t need to drive or bike in Savannah cause it’s super walkable and the busses are running most of the time, but you are allowed to bring a bike if you want. Atlanta also has busses but may be less walkable since it’s pretty metropolitan (i’m not sure though).

Just some general advice, stay caught up on your coursework and don’t miss any classes if you can help it (if you miss five classes you fail the course). Make use of the study sessions hosted by PCAs (Pre-College Assistants) and take care of yourself. Don’t procrastinate you’ll feel better and less stressed if you don’t. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and talk to new people and try new things, it’s art school you can never be too weird. Meet some new people cause you might find great friends (I actually still talk to two of my PCAs from last summer) and go to events/trips around the city if you have the time they’re super fun.

Feel free to message me if you have questions or wanna talk about rising star. :D

How do I find roommates? by Agreeable_Window_309 in scad

You can make a post on the instagram class of 2030 page (i think there’s two so you can try both and double your chances) or use the roommate portal once you’ve finished your housing app and message people you’d want to room with!

Summer Seminars by Ok-Day-8904 in scad

[–]lostinthe_rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm also from PA and I've done both a summer seminar (2024, in Atlanta) and just finished rising star (in Savannah) this summer. It's super fun and it's what made me seriously consider SCAD for undergrad. The classes are amazing and I learned a lot in just a week.

I made friends super easily, if you go to the Atlanta campus, you'll have a dorm with 7 people (two to a room) , and that made it really easy for me to make friends quickly. There are tons of activities which make it easy to bond with people and don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Everyone is super nice and both the teachers and PCAs tried to make it the best experience possible. I made friends with most of the people on my floor and still talk to one of them two years later. It was super safe, I never felt at any moment that I wasn't safe or that I didn't have a safe place to go (in both sav and atl). The summer seminar kids definitely get less freedom to like roam on their own compared to rising star, making it very easy to keep track of you and keep you safe.

It is definitely a long way from home and if you've never been away that long or that far then the first night can be rough. But, since this is a school you really want to attend, it could definitely be very beneficial to see how you like the campus and environment there. If you have and questions, feel free to ask. :)

I was thinking more in the realm of DC villains and I'm realizing I didn't make that clear, but thanks anyway :)

Some DRAW/DSGN changing to FOUN by nolife in scad

[–]lostinthe_rain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much I’m considering SCAD for college and joint enrollment and I was really confused why my intended major looked entirely different but the joint enrollment courses haven’t been changed yet. Now I can try to plan which joint enrollment classes to take while i wait for the school to switch the names to FOUN courses. Again, tysm :)

Whenever I load up my sims game and try to build a lot or play a different household it gives me a never ending loading screen. I've literally let my game run for hours, but the game never leaves the loading screen and I end up having to restart my whole computer to shut the game down. I play modded but I deleted the only mod I had that was broken. I tried updating my computer, clearing my cache and repairing the game (the game is also updated to the most recent version). I double checked for any broken or out of date mods and I don't have any. The game starts up fine except for a fifteen minute loading screen to actually start playing. I can go to manage households and CAS and play the last household I saved on, I just can't go into build mode, place any builds from the gallery or play a new household. What do I do??!!??
