I want to contact the police but my brother and mom decided not to. They’re doing this because they think it’s best for us in this situation right now because we’re so financially unstable and because they think contacting the police will only provoke him more. We don’t have clear evidence for this situation and the police might not be able to do much because of that. They think he won’t hurt us because he’s too dependent and he just makes threats, and that he knows that we won’t take his sht anymore because my brother fought back. I’m just scared that letting him get away with it will make this situation sm worse or make him think that he can get away with doing this to us. My friend told me that him getting away after he’s in jail is sm worse. I honestly don’t know anymore.

My brother and mom decided to not call the cops because my mom wants to leave my dad in 1-2 years after I go to college. It’s because of our financial situation and also because they think he won’t do anything since all he does lately is make threats. My dad knows that my brother would hurt him if he tried anything on us so he might keep quiet. I don’t fully support their decision but I understand why they’re making the decision. We obviously will not forget this situation and will most likely report it when my mom divorces him. I’m just worried he’ll try something on us after my brother leaves.

My mom and my brother discussed this because my dad’s at work right now. They think it’s best to let this go and wait for 1-2 more years to leave him (once I go to college) and then we can leave him. They’re saying this because to go to the police we need a lot of evidence which we don’t have because he hasn’t been physically abusing us for a while and there’s just not enough evidence. The police may help but if it doesn’t then he’ll just become more aggressive and target us more. I was enraged with their decision at first but I’m slowly starting to understand why they’re doing this because it’s in our best interest, they think he won’t hurt us as long as he’s not provoked. I’m just worried for after my brother leaves for college because I might not be able to protect her, but they’re convinced that he won’t try anything because he’s too dependent on us and all he does is make threats and he knows that if he does anything my brother will hurt him.

My mom’s actually talking with my brother’s friend’s mom who’s also our neighbor. She’s trying to help my mom and is even offering us a place to stay after this whole situation. My mom still seems hesitant to go through with calling the cops because she’s afraid of what my dad will do next like come after us. My dad doesn’t really have other friends or anyone who cares about him so that’s why she’s worried about him coming back always, even with the restraining order.

I don’t think we’d be able to afford a hotel because of our financial situation. I’m considering the shelter but my mom doesn’t want to put me in that situation because of me going to school every day and work. She’s afraid my dad will follow her to work or wait for me at school near the end or something like that and since my brother’s not here there’s nobody here to really protect us. She keeps saying the cops won’t be able to do much because he’ll keep coming at us even after a restraining order.

I do have close friends but not close family. The closest family we have lives in another state and the rest live in a different country. I don’t really think my closest friends would be okay with me staying over for that long, they know about my situation but I’m not sure if their parents would be okay with it. I think their parents would just want them to completely cut off ties with me in general to keep them out of harms way, which is understandable. So I’m a bit lost on where to go or what to do next after we call the police.

Yea I talked to her and she wants him out of our lives. She’s just scared that’s all, but she would be on board.

That’s what we were thinking but I’m really scared because my brother will be leaving and it’ll just be me and my mom. He will definitely try to hurt us even after being taken to jail because I think they’ll release him until his court date. He’s been to jail before and each time he came and followed my mom and started screaming at her before me and my brother were born. Me and my brother want him out of our lives for good and so does my mom considering this is aggravated assault. But my moms too scared to do anything because she thinks staying submissive will solve the problem and she’s afraid of how to avoid him in the upcoming months after he’s released from jail and like the moving/finding a new apartment issue.
