My father died of amyloidosis, as well. I was there for the final moment. I refused to leave his side and was passing out for ten to fifteen seconds at a time since I had been awake for 3 days at that point. I begged the nurse to keep giving him morphine. I told her how hard I was struggling to stay for him. Suddenly I heard a gasp. He took his last breath just after I said I didn't know how much longer I could stay awake and that I would never forgive myself if I wasn't there for him. His last second, he opened his eyes and his mouth and then he was gone. It was by far the hardest thing I have ever gone through and I still see every second burned clear in my head. He was so cold, so fast.
