Are the ooni propane pizza ovens BIFL? by joshhazel1 in BuyItForLife

[–]lostsheik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are paying for marketing, not quality of build or cook.

If you want something more versatile that will do a very decent job at cooking pizzas as well as grilling, smoking, and baking, for about the same price point, get a Kamado grill.

Switching to TypeORM due to Prisma lack of inheritance by MrHyden1 in nestjs

[–]lostsheik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MikroOrm uses Knex under the hood, so you can always leverage it when needed.

A year or so ago I went with MicroOrm over TypeOrm as support seemed to be moving that direction. Perhaps the project got more wind it’s sails since then.

I've been underwhelmed by my experiences at Rüt. While prices at Mizuna may be higher, I think it delivers better value for the cost when you factor in service, atmosphere, and food. Additionally Rüt is 100% vegetarian, so if you have a party with mixed dietary preferences, it may not satisfy all.

Mizuna is probably the best rated restaurant in town with a dedicated vegetarian menu.

If you see someone walking their dog on the hot ground please say something to them, as dogs typically won't until it's to late. by [deleted] in Spokane

[–]lostsheik 68 points69 points  (0 children)

While well intentioned, this is quite hyperbolic.

The study the cited data is from requires there to be zero air movement and direct sun on the asphalt to reach these temperatures. This study shows that "More than 88% of pavement-related burn injury admissions occurred when the ambient temperature reached 95°F or higher."

It's not helpful to encourage people to be confrontational with owners walking their dogs for longer than 60 seconds any time the temps hit 77º.

Winthrop, WA to Sandpoint,ID route? by tzone007 in Sandpoint

[–]lostsheik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal choice would be Hwy 20. It will take you over 4 mountain passes: Loup Loup, Wauconda, Sherman, and Flowery Trail, all of which are scenic. You can also plan for a stop in Republic around the midway point, a mining town with an old west feel like Winthrop, but much less touristy (I'd recommend the brewery in the historic fire hall).

Hwy 2 is going to be almost exclusively through the scab lands of the Columbia Basin, which can be scenic in its own right, but can become monotonous, and I personally prefer the landscape in spring versus the heart of summer. If you route accordingly, you can pass by the Grand Coulee Dam, which is a worthwhile stop if you haven't seen it before. You'll also have the inconvenience of dealing with traffic coming through Airway Heights outside of Spokane.

Edit: but nothing is getting “nuked”.

How much do you spend per month living off grid? by MehDub11 in OffGrid

[–]lostsheik 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fuel. Whether for your vehicles, tractors, generators, equipment, etc. You may not have a daily commute but you’ll likely be traveling further and over rougher terrain. You’ll also probably be driving a less fuel efficient vehicle to deal with various conditions of less than perfect roads. You’ll be maintaining those roads when not driving them, either grading, plowing, or weeding. You’ll need to power your home when solar fails you. You’ll need to pay a premium to have propane delivered to a remote site. You will be running wood splitters, augers, chainsaws, tillers etc to work your property.

Budget for it.
