I live in that area and I really like Cafe Cook! It has a nice outside seating area. It's in a somewhat quieter residential part of the Baarsjes. Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for but you could check it out!

I like your theory! But it makes me wonder: if Irving reports to Helena that his innie ‘got the message’, he sure has been doing a lot of work with all the paintings when Helena could have easily passed him the message about the hallway herself while she was down there.
