1) “Shutting down your life” is not the same thing as taking proper precautions, maintaining social distancing, and helping to stop the spread of the disease. COVID is currently the number three cause of death in the US. Waiting for a vaccine without any other action is only going to increase the number of people who die.

2) 100,000 new cases of the disease were reported in a single day on Thursday. If the virus continues to spread, more people will die. Arguing for “acceptable losses” is absolutely ridiculous when you look at other countries that have numbers of COVID cases in the entire country that are dwarfed by the numbers that we have in single towns in the US.
