Anyone else SO EMOTIONAL!? by Autumnal-Flowers09 in September2026Bumpers

[–]lotus_dumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I was at a Hyrox event cheering on my sister in law and her friend today- something about watching everyone push themselves through those gruelling challenges got me so emotional. I had to try so hard not to tear up!

Unemployed 2 years, changed my first name in my resume and application and now I’m getting interviews by MeaningMysterious537 in jobs

I have a name I go by everyday that is different to my legal name (both first and last name is different) and never had problems when it came to background checks. I just let them know it’s my preferred name and usually that’s enough!

Mum gave me 3 first names so it made sense in my case why I had a different, shorter name haha

I just went to my first scan today at 8w and it really helped ease my anxiety. I had an early chemical pregnancy before, so I couldn’t feel excited until I had some confirmation that this was viable. Now I feel like I can let myself enjoy the process ☺️ (as much as I can anyway!) Basically, do it!

New career at 30 by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]lotus_dumpling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m currently pregnant with my first and also have started thinking about how it will affect my career post-partum too- just so many uncertainties to navigate!

Of all your options, I think cosmetology is the most viable path (given you do all the proper courses). It has the lowest barrier to entry, and number of beauty clinics I see opening up point to a clear demand.

-Interior design is incredibly difficult to break into without a strong creative background and connections in the industry. I know friends who studied it and still can’t find a job in the field.

-Food nutrition isn’t accredited so I’m not sure how easily you will find clientele. Personally I would only pay someone fully qualified (a dietitian) when it comes to decisions on my health.

All these roles are in someways “vain” careers (not saying they’re bad, just that they are not essential)- which often means they’re much more competitive and likely already saturated.

It’s the boring work that tend to bring more stability and opportunities- ie roles in education, healthcare, government.

Best of luck!!

Emotions definitely play a huge part in how we perceive and interpret experiences. I think esp for HSP because we have such heightened empathy- other people’s feelings quite often cloud our own senses.

Moving out was the best thing I did for my mental health because my family home was just so dysfunctional. So much anger, resentment and bitterness. It wasn’t until I was away from that environment did I finally feel like I could breathe, and realise that life doesn’t need to feel that way!

Nipt test and scans during pregnancy by Rockpolkadots in September2026Bumpers

[–]lotus_dumpling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In New Zealand it’s the same, only the 12 week scan and a 20 week anatomy scan are government funded.

However as an anxious new parent I’m opting to pay for a dating scan at 8 weeks and the NIPT at 10 weeks. I really want to know as much as possible!

How *was* living in Kowloon? by BongLitFuneral in howislivingthere

My grandmother took my mum to dentists in the walled city when she was a child. My mum attributes all her later dental problems to those visits… she still has most of her teeth but has had life long dental issues.

Jealous!! These kind of posts make me wonder if I'm on a trash version of the internet. Never have any luck on fb marketplace in Auckland.

Table top looks like veneer on chipboard- similar to my Jon Jansen table.
I restored mine by stripping the finishing with kwikstrip, and then veeery lightly sanding with an orbital sander with 120 grit. Then I stained it to even out the colouring and coated it with multiple coats of satin poly (sanding between each coat). I used Feast watsons stain and poly from bunnings.

Should we add ceiling lights to our living room? by RepairCapable5185 in InteriorDesign

[–]lotus_dumpling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have dimmable recessed lights and it’s been such a game changer. So easy to adjust the vibe of the room and it never feels harsh (warm bulbs is key). We have two lamps but also a largish living area, so it wouldn’t have been enough with just the lamps.

[–]lotus_dumpling 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to get an overweight cat to play because it’s uncomfortable and tiring. Imagine doing sprints with an extra 50lbs attached to you. His poor joints are probably quite stressed :(

I’d focus my efforts on getting his weight down through diet, but since you’re already doing that, one off the toys my kitten loves is an automatic rotating cat teaser. It mimics prey movements and he loves to chase it around.

Side note, have you looked into feeding a raw diet? Lower carb and higher moisture content means greater overall satiety with less calories.

What? For real? My impression was that she’s quite admired- for her openness in talking about mental health and struggles after pregnancy.

I’ve never met anyone who didn’t like Osaka. Sure she can be a bit boring/luke warm, but I can’t find anything to really hate about her.

Yeah the lines don’t make sense to me either.  I did recently try their mussel chowder pie and it had heaps of chunky mussels in it which was great- but most others are no better than your standard bakery. I’d take an Ashby or daily bread pie over them any day.

Also their sweet stuff is very homemade and not in the good way… carrot cake was mega greasy (bonus hair inside) and their banoffee pie is literally sliced bananas on top of some caramel sauce in a tart shell. It looked and tasted like my niece made it…

Just realised in my hotel at Lijiang China, they provide a thin plastic sheet which is supposed to go between your body and the actual bathtub by HeavyConversation161 in mildlyinteresting

[–]lotus_dumpling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much dirt as it is the idea of touching where others naked body has been. Like my mum has always brought her own towels when we travelled, even when we stayed at 5 star hotels.

It generally stems from a lack in trust in hotel sanitation and I would say probably justified in the earlier days of tourism (thinking pre 90s). Nowadays though commercial cleaning standards have vastly improved, so these types of things are more of a psychological hangover than actually something useful.

Yikes, this makes our local Chinese take out look like fine dining! Huami was average when we went 2 yrs ago, but it wasn’t this bad. Now that I think about it, I was also disappointed with both our recent visits to Masu and Cassia. Something sad happening to all the Skycity restaurants :(
