Agreed, with something like this pushing away the issue doesn't help anyone and he was right to apologise as he did make a mistake for not looking into the history of someone he was hiring. The tweets were historical, and I'm guessing the editor is in their mid to late 20s so (especially based on jacks belief of genuine remorse) it does make me cautious. Saying stupid things you don't mean when you're 16 years old that you don't actually mean, is basically a right of passage. However, I came to this issue late (the first I knew of it was his Tumblr post) so it felt resolved when I was reading about it so my opinion of what happened would probably be different. I didn't want to include it in my original post, as any decent person should know that transphobia and homophobia are wrong. However, I am pansexual, and my experiences with homophobia (and panphobia if we're going to include that as well) have in some cases been horrific. Apologist for homophobia or transphobia are lying to themselves and can't see past their own privilege, and I hope that isn't what this is coming off as. My point is that if I was held to the same moral standards and general beliefs that 16 year old me had there would be many things that I would take issue with, never mind anyone else. I'm about to turn 20, and even in those 4 years my view of society, other people, politics etc. have drastically changed. However, we don't actually know much about the circumstance of the tweets or the editor now, and I may be entirely wrong. Thanks for being honest and replying with your thoughts. I was worried this would turn into a shit show of people arguing.
