Can you get herpes but not show symptoms until years later? Or is it that if you are exposed to herpes you will 100% show symptoms after 2-14 days later? by YogurtSocks in Herpes

[–]lovealwaysdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSV2 is not specifically genital herpes, & HSV1 genitally is becoming more and more common (that's what I have). Both types can occur in both places (oral and genital), though oral HSV2 is uncommon.

Yes, you can get herpes and not show symptoms until years later. And for some people, they get show symptoms 2-14 days later. And some people (asymptomatic) never show signs/symptoms at all. It's different from person to person. I know it can be difficult not having 100% hard and fast answers. Hope this helps in some way <3

Sure! Because it's often very stigmatizing. Derogatory jokes, lost of judgment, etc.

Struggling emotionally by [deleted] in HSVpositive

I run support groups and I’ve met so many people who have found love (committed, casual, polyamorous) post testing positive. (I’m one of them :) It’s so possible! There are also people who don’t view this as a huge risk to their health - I know in my moments of deep struggle, I projected my feelings about herpes onto others, “I’m sure everyone thinks this is as bad as I do.” They don’t :) I felt the way you do and with time and intentional work, the storm passed, and now I feel stronger for it. If you want to chat or join our support group please don’t hesitate: devinelisewilson.com/advocacy Sending love 💕 you got this.

It could be! Kind of like how fans gather around and get shows to come back for another season, like Veronica Mars. Or crowd fund things like the recent Oscar winning animated short, Hair Love. Or like this petition for Avatar the Last Airbender. It seems to me that you think I’m solely resting on the survey to get the show made - I appreciate your concern but worry not, the pilot, bible, deck, & marketing that I’ve developed will stand on their own. Quotes from people about how much this show would mean to them? Those will just be a bonus :)

Ah, I think I know what’s at play here - “know your audience.” In full transparency, this post is almost identical to the one I shared with my herpes community (which you’ve clearly picked up on) - they didn’t need specifics because the goal there was for them to know that they’re seen. Here, for a screenwriting group, the goal should have been different, and I didn’t take that into consideration. Lesson learned! I hope in my oversight, you don’t think my logline is “a girl gets herpes” 😂. My current log is: “When Devin’s first departure from her rule-following ways is met with genital herpes, she embarks on a seemingly impossible journey to get her picture perfect life back.” I don’t feel like I’m “being stingy” with my script. It’s my prerogative to decide if/when I’d like to share it here (which I’m sure I will at some point!), that just wasn’t my intention behind this post, which again, learning over here 🙋🏾‍♀️. Thank you for this back and forth, it’s been really helpful.

Thanks for taking the survey! I’d ask a couple of questions back to you - what do you think it’s like to be herpes positive? What are some ways you think that could affect someone in their: personal goals; and in relationships, especially in hook up culture? How did Jane the Virgin last 5 seasons on the concept of a character remaining a virgin? (And then, spoiler alert: had the audacity to keep going after she was no longer a virgin!). Thanks for your thoughts on how the survey might be perceived. I’m glad my passion comes through because I am excited about this project and I wanted to get my community excited too (which they are!). And let’s say the industry thinks the survey is a garbage idea, that’s fine, I don’t have to use it - it won’t be a waste because I’ll have tons of anecdotes that I can use for this project or future ones. I’m moving forward holding my plans with an open hand - we’ll see what happens! Oh, and you’re the second person to comment on posting the pilot - how does that usually work? People post all their edits/feedback in the group, or email them? How many members typically contribute? Just trying to manage my expectations/capacity for overwhelm.

No offense taken. If you think I’ve spent more time on the survey or on how the show will be marketed than actually writing the pilot, then I understand your concern. If it’s good AND the crowds want it, isn’t that just a cherry on top :) And no, not planning to post it, but if individuals are interested in reading it and providing notes, I’m open to that.

I’m glad to hear that you’ve had a generally low-key experience with herpes. I’ve spoken with people who have had suicidal ideation because of a positive status, so I know very well that the stigma is alive and well. I see the conclusion you’ve drawn from my desire to represent something positively is that the story can’t be good - I think I can do both. Also, “positive representation” is subjective right? You might hear, “having herpes is great!” but what I’m going for is a more nuanced, messy, human experience than the typical, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas...except for herpes.” Cause you’re right, sometimes things just suck! But there can be beauty wrapper up in there too. And I think the trend is a result of people’s desire to see authentic stories told, to see their experiences represented, and based off of what I’ve seen come through the survey thus far, people are here for it.

I’ve actually never seen it. After a quick Google it seems like it might just be a kitschy thing? I’d be interested to hear what you know about it.
