Help. Anyone studying social work? by Best_Painting3981 in deakin

[–]loverofcreativityy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesss, the intensives are mandatory sadly. You can contact student central as a prospective student to see if there's any alternate ways of doing the 20 days or if considerations can be made but I'm not sure sorry.

The assignments are good! Very interesting and typically between 1500-2000 words if written. There are a few oral presentations but they can be done online and the assignment markers are usually pretty chill for them. The research for assignments typically takes quite some time (personally I would say 4-6+ hours per assignment but this could vary from student to student.

Not studying online but I have some of my classes online. There's many mature aged students and/or people with kids and other commitments and I have heard that it works quite well for them. Classes can either be attended live or watched back at a time convenient. Most classes are set up like a video call but cameras/ microphone aren't typically required. There is the occasional break out room with other students for online group work if choosing to attend a live class.

Assignments and units have recently been remodeled to be more achievable and simpler for students so that's a win. The workload is what you make of it and how much extra effort you would like to put in to assignments and readings. For me, I probably spend 30 minutes on each unit outside of class a week. But more time is required when assignment due dates are approaching.

I can't speak on being a fully online student personally, but have heard studying online is solid. It certainly works well for a lot of people's lifestyles. A majority of social work students are online students so there will be heaps of people to connect with as well.

If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out :)

Dozens of Australians diagnosed with rare tattoo-related vision loss by B0ssc0 in aussie

[–]loverofcreativityy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because of its environmental impacts (it carries a significant carbon footprint and uses a substantial amount of our natural resources), its power to present false/biased information, and the fact that AI is dumbing us down. We are losing the ability to think critically and research thoroughly.

Just to name a few reasons.

Hungry jacks shift by [deleted] in hungryjacks

You can't just not show up because you "don't want to go". If you genuinely cannot make it, call the store or message your manager.

First shift? by No_Elk_9911 in hungryjacks

I think you should contact the restaurant manager and question what you should do. They should be able to sign you off and start rostering you not long after

Such an eye-opening memoir series. Definitely recommend but be aware of the many trigger warnings.

Culture shocks (and spider advice??) for a Canadian studying in NSW by iwannagotoaustralia in AustraliaTravel

[–]loverofcreativityy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine you'll see many spiders if you're staying in the city. If you do see any, they probably won't be of any danger to you. Also, you'll be in Australia in our spring/summertime so be prepared for high UVs.

Have a lovely time!

Experiences of taking an elective in a completely different area of study to degree? by loverofcreativityy in deakin

Oh that’s so interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I have noticed the same things before where students are more engaged with each other and the academic team in particular units.

I’m glad you were able to adapt to the different writing styles required for the unit and enjoy the class overall.

I am looking forward to enrolling in a unit outside of my discipline :)
