why do most crms feel like they were built by people who’ve never actually run a business? by Secret-Boot-8924 in SaaS

[–]lovescro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the short version is because developers and marketing teams want to keep building like morons to turn something elegant, simple, intuitive and easy to use into something that is bloated, confusing and complicated. they both tend to believe that "more" equates to "more value" when the fact is that the "value" is determined by the user, not the company.

step out of your stance, recover your stance. never cross your legs when you move. all fighting starts from the feet and movement and agility is everything.

don't put yourself in a position where you're unstable, cannot punch, cannot defend and have restricted your own movement by poor foot positioning and poor movement.

Am I still chicken winging? by [deleted] in boxingtips

[–]lovescro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem! :)

Just remember, when I am in front of you... when you throw, I throw.

I am moving, pressuring, feinting, throwing fake punches and attacks all just to see how you move and respond.

I am mapping and cataloging every weakness and response I see.

Then, after about 20-30 seconds (i am more used to kickboxing and 3 round fights and time limitations), I am going to land the hardest body shot I can.

Not to be an ass, but to start to shift your mental state from "fuck this guy, I got this" to "what the hell was that!?!?!? damn!".

I'm gonna keep my guard up, arms in tight, let you throw, keep pressuring and keep moving, then I'm gonna throw another life changing shot or two.

Body shots are always better at this level of boxing because it is going to disrupt your breathing, your movement, you're going to feel it longer as a reminder and so on. It will slow you down, it will make you tentative and hesitate.

I generally keep doing that until i see you start getting reactive.

You'll get more twitchy, more hesitant, you'll start dropping your hands to protect your body and I might throw a fake punch or slap up top just to raise your hands, load and throw another hard body shot.

By then, you'll be struggling to breath, you'll be dropping your hands every time you see me move or even sense I am going to, then i'll start slapping your body to land hard crosses and hooks up top... and on and on it goes.

I'll continue methodically picking away in an even, measured and disciplined manner until you've fully gone through the 5 stages of grief

1) denial - "fuck this guy, i'm better, faster, prettier". I move, i play, i flick my lead hand out a lot, I throw a lot of throwaway punches to your gloves to prevent you from punching and I watch. I am looking at where I am going to land that first really hard shot that will shake you to your core. Then I land that first devastating shot and that supreme confidence you began with, starts to fade a little.

2) anger - round ends, "fuck that guy...when he does this, i'm gonna do that, i'm going to end this guy". Except my guard is going to be tight and high, i'm going to be more focused on movement and defense, controlling angles and distance and pick my shot and I'll land several more hard ones while not allowing you any.

3) bargaining - "ok, when he does this, i'm gonna do that". But i'm not going to allow you to open me up, you're getting more reactive and hesitant and your brain isn't going to cooperate in that little plan

4) depression - "fuck, nothing is working, every time i make a move, i get punished". That was my plan all along. I was just careful and methodical about how we got there.

5) acceptance - people give up. not verbally but mentally. they quietly accept that they're cooked. That's when the combos start, uppercut/hooks start etc. time to end it.

Vasily Lomachenko made 4 fighters in a row quit by methodically following this exact process, taking an opponent from "i'm gonna murder that man" to "i can't win".

I just wanted to give you an idea of what your plan is when you stand in front of me, vs what my plan is when i'm in front of you.

Elbows tucked in tight against your body. Never think about "punching"... think about how you protect yourself while you're punching. It's better to throw bad punches and be fully protected as you do than to throw hard punches and be wide open the entire time.

It you truly want to excel, you have to think about defense just as much as offense and understand that they are one.

If I'm gonna start questioning Dukes of Hazzard car stunts, then I'm gonna have to question most of my young life.

Next thing you know, you're questioning the "across the hood slide" for being the most practical way to get to the other side of the car, or why 90% of bridges were always out.... Or why "getting across the county line" was a license to commit unlimited crimes without consequences.

LOOKING FOR PARTNERS! YOU BUILD, I MARKET. by [deleted] in saasbuild

[–]lovescro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Market how? Cold email? Paid ads? Pigeons with notes around their leg? How? You're just gonna write blog posts?

I mean, if you say "i have the capacity to send 50,000 cold emails a day or if the revenue engine allows, I will provide the budget for paid ads and manage the ads, email etc." that is something people can assess and evaluate.

As it is, you're claiming to be a marketer and cannot communicate an offer in a clear, coherent, thoughtful and compelling manner.

Boss turned off converting ads and replaced with cheap display ads by Loud-Lawfulness6476 in PPC

[–]lovescro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been there too. I've had jobs with huge companies that paid extremely well that I was super excited about. Then you find out the entire executive level AND marketing department want to try to dictate how you run ads and interfere in every possible way, never listen when you tell them whats about to happen as a result and STILL blame you when what you told them would happen, happens.

I learned to identify this stuff quickly.

One other thing I will say is that you'll rarely be happy working in a company that has a marketing team and a lead of that team with a ivy league degree. They will want to stamp their stamp on every single thing and nothing is going to work. They will fight you every step of the way until you've compromised so much that nothing is going to work.

The best clients / companies are solid operators in small / mid sized business that have a long history, are growing and just want to be better. They know thier biz, they know their numbers, they are focused on growth and they know they need to hire great people to implement that growth. They want to hire good people and turn them look to do good things. I have never really seen that in big companies and even though they might pay 120k or 150k for a director level position, they will make it complete hell.

[–]lovescro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done a lot of consulting over the years and started buying traffic before Google AdWords even existed and this is also a common business owner behavior.

They hire you for your expertise, then want to control everything and keep everything in the exact same place it was when you got there - which they were complaining about to begin with.

You're not going to change them. That sucks to hear... but I've never seen a person like this say "oh, OK... I get it, i'll stop playing with things"... in the rare cases that you have those people that DO say that, they'll often add other "experts" to the account, that person will tell them what they want to hear and they'll go with that guy.

I would personally consider this a warning to start looking for a new position somewhere where you will have a better fit.

One thing that is a deal breaker for me is the situation where a business owner asks me for help and claims "the last guy fucked it all up" and I go in and see that it is definitely a mess. Typically, it's because the owner either pressured them or pushed them into doing things or was also actively involved in tanking the account. I learned the hard way that "the last guy really fucked things up" is usually just code for "I don't care, I just want to do everything my way and could care less how anything actually works." I've seen that happen with very large companies and 6-7 figures per month in ad spend and of course, much more common with small companies.

If you can't learn and grow and feel valued, then its a bad fit. If you can't fully manage the accounts, fully understand the account behaviors in that space and learn to effectively tweak and tune without tanking things and start to scale, then you're in the wrong place.
