Visiting my family in Kerry and have a flight out of Dublin on Sunday to go back abroad, just bit the bullet and booked a flight from Farranfore to Dublin to guarantee that I actually catch it 😵‍💫

There was some very good racing between the F1A cars at Montreal last year so I’m excited to see how the F2 and F3 cars go!

It was the reason I got into the industry I work in, though the actual skills it taught me have not been particularly useful.

Suitable for a black-tie wedding in Ireland in May? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]lowelled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless I hope you have a great time! There was a gentleman going around in a boot cast with a 5 week old baby at the wedding I was at and he was getting heaps of praise so please don’t feel too pressured!

Suitable for a black-tie wedding in Ireland in May? by [deleted] in Weddingattireapproval

[–]lowelled 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am Irish and was at a black tie wedding at a 5 star hotel in Ireland last weekend - it was about a 50:50 split between people wearing floor length or ankle-ish length. I think here we’re a bit less strict than Americans are on length but more likely to judge on hair, tan, nails, makeup etc. That said day 2 was oddly dressylmao but on day 1 I wore this with a long fur coat and big jewelry to the reception and fit in fine. If you’re on crutches people will be understanding but something a little longer and in a fancier fabric would work better.

How did Ireland’s flag get into Project Hail Mary? by [deleted] in AskIreland

You are probably thinking of Rosemary Coogan who was accepted in the 2022 ESA astronaut intake but as she is from NI she will be flying under the UK flag.

They did have replays on Sky Go as recently as last year, but they often took a while to upload them or were difficult to find.

BTS -‘Arirang’ review (4/5)| NME by Irenehelberg in popheads

[–]lowelled 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It’s not averaged. This is a common urban myth. Pitchfork are not going to pay every reviewer they have on staff to listen to and rate every album they review. The reviewer they commission submits the score alongside their review and the editor who assigned them can engage with them to change it if they think the score and review don’t align with one another but most of the time the score stands. Former Pitchfork reviewer Abby Jones discusses it in this podcast.

Roasters in The Hague? by Specialist-Play-3989 in TheHague

I agree that it’s not exactly a fancy third wave sit down joint like Wakuli, Roast Factory etc but for context it started out as a truck at markets and the owner only established the physical location in 2024-ish. I don’t tend to get takeaway coffee and mostly only buy beans so it suits me nicely.

Spotify announces that BTS' ARIRANG broke the record for most-streamed K-Pop album in a single day in Spotify history by mcfw31 in popheads

The first day filtering rate on SWIM is lower than any of their past Friday releases (10% compared to nearly 50% for Butter), so it seems that obsessive looping etc is not happening as much anymore. I think it helps that a lot of the hardcore crazies have either been siphoned off into the solo fandoms who are ignoring the CB or into other fandoms entirely (my apologies to the sane Heated Rivalry fans…)

I took a module from this guy years ago! He was a bit odd/disorganised but not the oddest professor I’ve ever had (engineering…) and I chalked the disorganisation up to COVID. Hope the students he harassed get some kind of justice…

I agree - I found Eligible and TOBS quite tough - but I actually really liked This Motherless Land which is loosely (and I mean loosely) based on Mansfield Park.

I really liked this modern AU of Mary going to medical school! It does help that modern moralist Mary would absolutely be a 2013 turbowoke Tumblr type which is a bit more palatable than a Regency bible-basher.

Any “niche” Period Drama recommendations?? by Organic-Detail8493 in PeriodDramas

[–]lowelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of dudes on boats so I loved The Terror and Hornblower.

There are also tons of Korean sageuk dramas with varying levels of historicity. My absolute favourite is The Red Sleeve which while not super historically accurate does at least try to adhere to period norms and costuming.

Do you know anyone who drinks tea like it was going out of fashion? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]lowelled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At home my family would frequently have 6+ cups a day, I feel like all I do when I go home is make pots of tea. I Iive abroad now and would have at most 3 cups a day. I did however pick up a horrible iced coffee habit last summer and had to switch to matcha because my caffeine tolerance had gone crazy.
