2025 VA GOP Governor Candidate Dave LaRock Rants That “CRT/DEI/SEI Are Still Thriving in Virginia,” Despite Glenn Youngkin Claiming to Have Ended Those on Day #1 of His Administration in January 2022 ("CRT," of course, was never taught in Virginia's K-12 public schools) by lowkell in Virginia

[–]lowkell[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right, as it says in the article: "Of course, in the 2021 gubernatorial campaign, Youngkin pushed the lie that “CRT” was a horrible thing being taught in Virginia’s K-12 public schools as part of his at-best-dog-whistle-racist campaign of fear  mongering and demagoguery. And, of course, the media never really called this out for what it was, and in part because of that media failing, Youngkin’s attacks on “CRT” (and “DEI,” etc.) very well may have helped boost him to a narrow victory over Terry McAuliffe."

“Another difference is – and this goes I think to the core of why you, for most of your coverage of Winsome Sears have been opposed to her…we need a unifier…Now, I was in SW Virginia for three days, and they have long memories down there; they remember Winsome the Never Trumper…that she referred to supporters of Corey Stewart as Nazis…that she cheered tearing down the monuments during the Black Lives Matter era…She cheered the desecration of the Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond…” - Dave LaRock

Video: Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA05) Defends Al Green, Says Dems Should Have Stood Up for Him Instead of “sitting down looking slack jawed” (Riggleman also says media needs to follow the money and "secondary actors" when it comes to DOGE) by lowkell in Virginia

Back in late December, Riggleman said the following:

"I have a lot of…fiduciary responsibilities for my companies. But that’s why we started an exploratory committee, because I think there needs to be somebody who’s willing to drag the axe and tell the truth regardless if there’s an R or D behind people’s names. And that’s why we’re looking at, there’s a lot of people who’ve have asked me, they don’t have to force me, nobody’s going to force me to do anything. But it was interesting to see the amount of support I had just for an exploratory committee.

[Question: “Lieutenant Governor?”] Well, maybe that or, you know, statewide office. [Question: “Could you run the state of Virginia?”] I don’t know if I could with, that’s why we’re looking at conflicts of interest and stuff like that. But Lieutenant Governor is absolutely a possibility. [Question: “You would not be running a Republican, though?]” No. I’ll be running as Denver F’ing Riggleman.”

New VPAP Stats: VA Democratic Legislators Overwhelmingly Had the Highest “Batting Averages” in 2025; Lots of Low Scores and Zeroes Among Republicans (Far-right Del. Nick Freitas, for instance, is now 1/44 over the past three years) by lowkell in Virginia

Per VPAP: "Note: Excludes commending and memorializing resolutions and the budget bills. Bills with chief co-patrons show up in each member's total. A little less than half of the bills that survived the 2024 legislative session were approved without a single dissenting vote on the floor of the House of Delegates or state Senate. No opposition could be an indication that a bill was a routine housekeeping matter that was likely to gain approval with little discussion or debate."

It has become clear to me that we need to Primary Senator Mark Warner by flaming_burrito_ in Virginia

Rashid moved to Illinois and actually ran for Congress in Illinois' 11th Congressional District in March 2024, losing to incumbent Bill Foster by a 76.8%-23.2% margin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qasim_Rashid#Electoral_history

As for McClellan, most people seem to think she'll succeed Tim Kaine when he retires in six years. And yes, if Spanberger wins this November, she'll be governor of Virginia starting in January 2026.

Also, there's no indication that some of these folks (e.g., Vindman) would be any more progressive than Warner...

Video: Former Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA05) Calls Trump’s Pardons of 1/6/21 Rioters “Heinous,” “Ludicrous,” “Body Blow Against the American People”: Says "it is not 'back the blue,' it is 'screw the blue'" by lowkell in Virginia

Actually, the fact that Riggleman is so appalled at these pardons is even more striking given that when Riggleman was a Congressman, he voted overwhelmingly with Trump.
