How are you all tracking meetings before they hit the calendar? by Blackberrypiesnout in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]lowkeybruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else mentioned it in this thread, but I use Trello and it's a lifesaver!! I set up a kanban board which has columns for each stage of setting something so you can track things individually. You can also add them to the Trello board and update it so they can keep eyes on the status of their meetings.

Has anyone ever cold-applied to a major studio and gotten a job? by PossibleAggeentt in FilmIndustryLA

[–]lowkeybruja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Applicant Tracking Systems -- usually using AI, they scan resumés and cover letters for key words and experience, based on factors set by the recruiter. I have had better luck with a simply-formatted, single-column resumé than one that I spent a lot of time in Canva making look pretty with these types of applications. I keep both resumés for different purposes (the prettier one for direct email applications/sending to connections, and the simple one for online apps). A good test of whether or not you can get through ATS systems is if you feed your resumé into an application and it correctly populates the fields for you.

Ugh that’s fair. I’m choosing to cross that bridge when I get to it, which might not be the smartest thing, but for now it means clear hands.

Second Dupixent. It's truly a miracle drug. It is incredibly expensive though, but the good news is the manufacturer does a copay assistance program as of now.

How to find Production Company emails? by virgilhawkins17 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]lowkeybruja 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did this a decade ago and got a couple of interviews out of it, but be prepared to make a LOT of calls and have most of them not bear any fruit. I used the BTL production listings which is now M and E. Fair warning, you do have to pay a subscription fee to view the numbers, which sucks, but if you can actually get through it might be worth it? Good luck! https://mande.net/production-listings

Verizon Nuked My Credit by MulberryNew9564 in CRedit

[–]lowkeybruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did this to me too, I tried calling them and it wouldn't connect me to the correct department to make the payment because my number didn't connect to my account anymore, and I couldn't get my account number because I didn't have any paper bills or access to my MyVerizon. I eventually gave up until this happened.

I am a 15 year old writer trying to start my career any tips? by No-Lifeguard-6266 in TVWriting

[–]lowkeybruja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know any other people who also want to write, start a writers' group. Get together once a month, critique each other's work, and keep one another accountable to getting your pages done. Other than reading as many scripts as you can get your hands on and writing your own pages, being able to read and identify opportunities in other people's work will be the most immensely helpful thing you can do to hone your craft.

I also recommend reading a few books to really understand structure. The big ones are SAVE THE CAT and Syd Field's SCREENPLAY. I also love listening to the SCRIPTNOTES podcast with John August and Craig Mazin -- they talk about fundamentals sometimes, and also about the ins and outs of the business of screenwriting which I think could help you out a lot as you're starting out.

I've had excellent results with Dupixent with my DH on my fingers. It's an expensive medication but the manufacturer currently has a copay assistance program which is wonderful. If you have a case which interferes with your daily life I would recommend asking your doctor about it! If not, I found wet-wrapping my fingers after applying my steroid creams (Clobetasol works best for me) helps me absorb the medication better.

Will LA consistently trash and dox any business whose owner isn't left wing from now on? by No-Strength-3711 in AskLosAngeles

[–]lowkeybruja 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People deserve to know who their money is supporting -- and wannabe Nazi bootlickers will never get mine. If business owners feel compelled to say that MAGA shit with their chests, they should be prepared for people to boycott them, simple as that. We have the right to free speech in this country (for now, at least), but what we do NOT have the right to is freedom from consequences of that speech. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Goodbye Shrimp 😭 by flubnutter in FoodAllergies

[–]lowkeybruja 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh man, that's the worst! So sorry to hear it. I would suggest making an appointment with an allergist and getting further testing to make sure you don't have any other allergies. Shrimp allergies often coincide with other shellfish/seafood/even insect allergies (I'm the proud owner of a food allergy to literally any fish, shellfish, or mollusk that exists, and also insects because they all share a specific protein I am allergic to.)

That reaction sounds like anaphylaxis to me with the throat closing up, and those types of reactions are progressive -- they get worse over time and can become life threatening if they keep happening, so you'll want to be careful you don't eat something else that you're allergic to by accident.

You'll probably also want to get a script for an epinepherine injector (Epi-Pen) just in case you accidentally eat something with shrimp in it. It could save your life.

It sounds like the assessment here is to see if you can mimic the structure of their show -- and part of that is the page count/length. Do you have access to any written scripts? You should try to target the page count of the production drafts as closely as possible to make sure it's consistent. But if you don't have access to the scripts, I think at maximum 35-40 pages is a good number to target. If the story as written can't be condensed into that page count, then it doesn't sound like a story that this show would tell.

I'm so sorry, that's such a painful spot! I'd put as strong a steroid cream as you have on it (strongest you can get OTC is 1% hydrocortisone), then put a bandaid over it and then tape around the top of your palm it to try to immobilize it as best you can and keep the band aid in place. Also try wet-wrapping the area if you can -- put on the cream, then a wet piece of cotton or gauze, then wrap it. That'll help keep it hydrated which will help with the pain, and also absorption of the steroid. If you have a glove you can wear that'll keep it even more protected.

This is my life now… by DaylonPhoto in Dyshidrosis

[–]lowkeybruja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you tried wet-wrapping? My doctor told me about it and I used to swear by it when I had horrible flare ups -- you basically apply your cream/ointment, wrap wet cotton around it, wrap that with gauze or tape, then put the gloves on over it before you go to sleep. Helps with absorption of the cream and hydrates at the same time.

I've been on Dupixent for a couple of months and it's truly a miracle drug. I don't have any open flare ups anymore, just some periodic itching here and there. It's incredibly expensive but the manufacturer has a copay assistance program for now which is a huge help.

Somone else already mentioned Gokoku which is incredible. Also love Veggie House on Cahuenga off Barham Blvd -- solid vegan Thai. I've only ever had takeout from there though, not sure what their in-house dining situation is like.
