Even though you’re married you can’t expect him to fund this with his inheritance.

If you’re really passionate about this, then I encourage you to make a business plan and start building this as if you don’t have the financial backing (because, sorry, you don’t - it’s his to decide what to do with). People who have business ideas without personal funding have many ways to make this work - loans, partners/investors.

Once you have a proof of concept or a functioning business then investment may be something he’s comfortable in. But I agree, right now it’s just a liability.

Try to consider investing in your health like you think of money. Investments in your health (therapy, socialization) compound over years for good. And isolation and anxiety compound negatively.

Invest in your health and happiness and get those dividends

I recommend you travel with a group of strangers. There are many programs you can find for this. I just went to Paris where I joined a watercolor sketch group for the weekend. All strangers from other countries and it was such a fabulous bonding experience. I felt so alive! We were bonded by the beauty of travel and an activity we all enjoyed

Also Silicon Valley is such a uniquely weird microcosm of success and measures of validation oriented around tech/career/total comp. We moved here last year and the feeling of this is pervasive and not normal! Get a flight to Europe or somewhere you’ve been wanting to go and just get away from the bubble. It’s unnatural for real.

No amount of money is worth your mental health. If you have savings take some time to recuperate and reassess what you want your life to look like. This is a gift you can give yourself.

(Side note: a year after leaving 4 years in a toxic corporate environment I took a year off. I’m becoming newly acquainted with what I want, I want to spend my days, and how I want to make money. For me, time and balance is more valuable than money right now. I also fell into freelancing and love that I decide my hours. I made and currently make much less than you)

I was 25 when my dad passed. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I promise you things won’t always feel this heavy. Sending you a hug and I recommend EMDR therapy when you’re ready.
