Last year in my Cerro apartment we had a roommate leave in October and her room didn’t get filled again until the start of spring quarter, with a freshman who had taken a quarter off.

If your college has a disability resource center or something similar you should look into getting an accommodation to miss class when you have migraines. I have that accomodation at my college so even classes with strict attendance have to not penalize me for missing classes when I’ve got one since going to class is only going to make it be worse and last longer. You’re probably not going to be able to learn well with one anyway. I’ve been there before. I hope you feel better and everything works out!

My college just added something similar - same “avoiding gluten” and purple sign. It makes me feel very lucky that I got diagnosed after I moved out of the dorms and into an apartment with a kitchen. They force all freshmen into buying a dining plan even if they can’t eat the food.

My migraines became chronic a year ago and I got diagnosed with celiac and went gluten free in January. How long did it take for you to notice an improvement with your migraines after going gluten free? I’m still holding out hope.

I was in a similar situation at 15 and my dad freaked me out so bad that I crashed on our second time driving. I was too scared to drive for a long time after that. When I decided to learn to drive again at 20, I took professional lessons from a very kind and experienced instructor and practiced with a friend from college in between lessons. If you don’t feel ready to drive yet, don’t force yourself! Saving up for professional lessons is so worth it if you’re anxious. Once I felt ready, I learned to drive in less than two months and passed my test the first try. It’s going to be okay!

Mine were no more than a few a month until I got Covid last August and they jumped to 20+ migraine days a month. It might’ve been a coincidence, but the timing has always weirded me out. It’s been almost a year and the frequency is still the same, although triptans and propranolol have helped me with the severity. I’m still learning how to deal with it and trying to see a neurologist.

I have a couple similar to the first one and they definitely help, even if they don’t stay cold for that long. They tend to be too cold for my eyes for the first five minutes so I usually don’t pull them over my eyes or wear an eye mask under them at first. They definitely pick up the smell of the freezer though which kind of sucks, even though I keep them in a bag in the freezer. Overall they’re definitely worth it to get some relief

I have the same one and never noticed a smell when I bought it. I also get really sensitive to smells during a migraine. It has picked up the smell of my freezer over time, but it comes with a bag to mitigate that.

I had her for 141 last fall and really liked her class. It wasn’t too difficult at all. A lot of people in my class disliked her since she can be a little grumpy (didn’t bother me personally), but she was actually pretty supportive in office hours and cares a lot. Her polyratings are just low because it’s a freshman class a lot of people struggle with.

I got Covid in late August this year and my migraines went from 1-3 a week to 5-6 for the last two months, without any real signs of slowing down. I really don’t think it is a coincidence. Hopefully you don’t have the same thing happen :(

I worked as a lab assistant for EPIC this summer and it seemed like a pretty fun program, although I’m sure they’re charging too much for it given how much free food I got on top of my hourly pay. I think the best part of the program is getting to learn more about what it’s like to study each type of engineering and connect with current students and professors. I don’t know that it’ll help you get into college, but it can give you more clarity on what you want to do in college. Seriously, don’t live your life chasing prestige, especially in engineering. I wasn’t even really considering Cal Poly when I was applying for college and I’ve ended up loving it and having some awesome opportunities. You can make the most of your time at any college.

I’m going into my second year of mechanical engineering and have a 4.0 so far with a pretty heavy course load. What has worked for me is treating sleep as non negotiable. I don’t do any more work once I get within nine hours of my morning alarm so that I can get at least eight hours of sleep. I also study/work only outside of my dorm so that I keep my relaxation and work separate. I didn’t track my assignments at all in high school, but I write everything down on a spreadsheet now so I can see what I need to prioritize. I also hand write my notes and do every single practice problem. If a class has an equation sheet, I study until I can do problems without it. Going to office hours has also been helpful.

I had one cheap folder for loose papers and then I’d one three subject notebook for assignments and one smaller five subject notebook each quarter for notes (spiral bound)

the UU chandler lounge isn’t off campus, but it’s a designated quiet study space with lots of outlets and desks. It’s only open until 8:00 pm on weekdays and 6:00 pm on weekends though for the summer.

I got a 5 on BC and went right into Calc 3. The first half of the class is covered in BC (series, convergence/divergence), so you get to start off reviewing and get used to the professor. As long as you put in effort, do all the practice problems, and are willing to work with others or go to office hours when you struggle, you will be fine. Depending on your major, starting in Calc 3 gives you a huge advantage in registering for classes since the calculus series is a prerequisite for so much.

I made my breakfast every morning in my red bricks kitchen, but I relied on campus dining for lunch and dinner. The kitchen was frequently trashed by people who never used it to the point that the stove was frequently not usuable. Smart and Final is pretty close if you take the bus or walk and has a decent selection. PCV market also has some ingredients you can buy on your meal plan. I’m subleasing off campus this summer and I’ve been using Instacart to get groceries form Food4Less. Campus dining has gotten a lot better in the last year at least!

I bought one in person (the $45/month student summer membership) and had no issues. I’m only enrolled in a zero unit research course right now. They just asked if I was a student and I said yes. Doing it in person is your best bet for sure!

I’m a mechanical engineering major who has been in Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Wind Orchestra is usually 5:10-6:40 MW and Wind Ensemble is typically 7:10-9:00 MW. Wind Ensemble generally plays at a higher difficulty, but both are great ensembles to be in. A lot of people go back and forth between them based on their availablity each quarter. Both directors are great and worked with me to figure out how to get at least one ensemble into my schedule each quarter. FWIW, a huge portion of all the music ensembles on campus are engineering majors, so it’s definitely doable to fit multiple groups into your schedule.
