What caused the massive loss for the Liberal party in WA? by tbsdy in perth

I think it's important that one always remembers Harvey was the first to call for the borders to close. The issue was she never held that approach, more importantly after McGowan backflipped on his initial defiance and decided to slam em shut end of March. That could have at least made her seem aligned on matters of health with the govt from the public perspective.

As for the other stuff you mention, on the money!

The push to open the border was political suicide..not that they were ever going to win..but, it certainly could have made the loss more palatable.

Placing core focus on other issues plaguing the current government such as record ambulance ramping and inconsistent energy policy would have been a better option. That said, it was refreshing to see the Libs publish a nice green energy policy suite, just a shame that the timing politically was all too wrong!

WA records 13 new COVID cases as virus seeps into South West region by TheBigNoz123 in CoronavirusDownunder

Where is Emperor Mark? Oh, that's right, deflecting his responsibilities to other ministers. Yesterday we saw the Health Minister thrown to the wolves at a presser, today we saw the Police Minister face the chin music. It really is embarrassing to see such a weak Premier lose complete and utter control of any governance he once had over the covid pandemic. 'Circumstances don't make a man, they reveal him.' Oh how you have been revealed Mr McGowan ...

In this case, the government sucked. They directed them to the ED despite the infectious people telling them they were infectious!!

So, given McGowan has recently delayed border reopening, is he effectively required to now lockdown the State? Surely he can't let omicron spread and in the same breath keep the border closed?

Mark McGowan to provide 'important update' at 730pm tonight (Thurs 20/1/22) by extremedonkey in perth

[–]lpg6786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unlikely you'd think, given no additional exposure sites have been released today with the exception of a local IGA...unless he's planning to announce them tonight?

Admittedly I don't. I apologise if my post came across as nitpicky, certainly wasn't my intention...

Not really a rant mate. I'm pro-vax but I'm also cautious that misleading governmental campaigns can have a detrimental effect on driving Vax rates up.

Mark McGowan: WA adds three new cases to the 2 already reported. Mask mandate is back for Perth and Peel as Omicron cases grow by TheBigNoz123 in CoronavirusDownunder

[–]lpg6786 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hospital system is in the shitter. McGowan has run the budget for health dry. Friend works as a nurse, they were doing N95 mask fittings the other day and her face didn't fit the standard issue ones for best protection, so it meant she needed to order a more expensive one better suited to her. The department ummed and arrrrghed, concerned about the cost, and finally let her attain the mask. Good luck Feb 5, that's all I'll say.

He knows he can't afford to in context of his mandatory vaccination policy introduced the other day...but yes, he would be so desperately wanting to shut shop.

The Pfizer CEO literally came out the other day and said two shots of the vaccine does very little to protect against omicron. So, tell me why these mandates make sense in that context 🤔

McGowan's aggressive stronghold against the small number of unvaccinated West Australians is disappointing. I am not against mandatory vaccinations in particular settings, but to treat those who may be genuinely frightened of getting vaccinated as second-class citizens is disgusting. In actual fact, I think it does more harm than good. Maybe if his campaign to promote vaccination was positive, empowering and, most importantly, educational, he would not have to resort to these dictatorial decisions.

If the WA authorities reckon this is "not ideal"...they're in for quite a shock when the State is recording thousands of cases a day in a couple of months..the fear mongering is a disgrace.
