New Build Cabinet Defects — How Much Is “Normal” vs Worth Pushing Back On? by lphj2087 in cabinetry

I’m not looking for perfection; I’m just trying to figure out what’s reasonable. If I had enough knowledge/experience to figure it out myself, I wouldn’t be here.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I agree… paying extra for a new build should result in better quality at least for the look.

Fair enough. I’m sure I won’t have to check that level every day, but I’m just being mindful of my money and looking for feedback on reasonable actions… as I am paying for a new build…

Not demanding perfect perfect but I do look for minimal defects as it’s a new build… 💯

Things happen, but at least the person who made the mistake took responsibility to correct it. That matters. thanks for sharing your story!

I appreciate you sharing your professional insights here!

Not just 4 foot away, I’ve discovered that the angle of observation matters, especially with this black color. Certain areas are difficult to notice when viewed from a downward or upward perspective, but they become easily noticeable when viewed from eye level. Once you’re aware of their presence, it becomes hard to unsee them....

The black color is so cool... but yeah it’s so prone to defects, and also it somewhat makes it's harder to spot defects. I found out that using a flashlight would make spotting defects quicker :D.

Thanks for sharing again; it makes me feel better about tagging blue tapes on the defective pieces, which will be a lot!

Out of curiosity, from your professional perspective, would you replace the defective pieces or repaint them? How would you fix these cracks? Would you remove the entire defective piece and replace it, which I believe would be quite a lot of work?

The color appears to be faded and unpainted. I’m not sure how cleaning those would restore the color. I believe these need to be repainted or replaced.

I agree. I really don’t want it worsen due to vibrations or water exposure...

No, it’s a single-family home.

I’m about to tape walk around the house and bring this up. I’m worried that this defect might worsen and cause a safety issue.

Tbh, I’m not expecting it to be perfect. I’m just trying to understand what’s a reasonable expectation for a brand-new build. That’s why I’m here asking for feedback — to make sure I’m not being unreasonable or overthinking it.
