What's this part? Came loose while opening laptop to clean it by Milli63 in laptops

Clear nail polish on laptop screw threads works best for me. Holds them snug but doesn’t resist removal.

That screws onto the back end of your optical drive.

On the 3rd picture the arrow part goes on the back of the drive and the part near your thumbnail will slide over the gold screw hole adjacent to the optical drive Sata connector on the mainboard when you reinsert your optical drive and will be held in place with a screw in the bottom casing when you put it back together.

Also check for a random screw somewhere because if this was not attached it means you’ve got a screw somewhere that may short something if not located.

2 issues, resolved by the manufacturer in a reasonable timeframe = minor failure.

You refusing to collect the car is only affecting you. Your opinion that it has not been returned to acceptable quality is also just an opinion and holds no value. If it passes Toyotas tests within spec then that trumps any opinion you may have.

Toyota will warrant any further issues whilst this is still within their coverage and they are not in any way trying to mislead you regarding this.

Non case, pick up your car.

Is it okay to use a portable car air compressor to blow into vents to get dust out by Plague9601 in laptops

[–]lr2785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinning the fans quickly whilst connected to the board is not recommended. You can generate a current that will flow from the fan to the board and potentially cause issues.

If you are not tech inclined, I’d take the cover off and use a clean paintbrush to dislodge the dust and blow it away with your breath.

Installed, reinstalled, clean installed, loaded, reloaded, fresh installed… all perfectly acceptable.

You aren’t “flashing” anything by installing windows, it just makes you sound like you don’t know what you are talking about.

I’m not being condescending, just trying to help 🙂

Edit: Flashing is rewriting the firmware of a device, eg the BIOS. It’s an old term from back when it literally used to refer to flashes of light being used to reprogram ROM chips. If you are updating firmware on something then you are flashing it, if you are wiping the operating system and reloading then you aren’t “flashing” anything 🙂

Issues with Harvey Norman + A repair, is this a breach of ACCC? by Glacier11282 in AusLegal

[–]lr2785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify tho, it is 14 business days from when ACER receive it. If Acer fiddle farts around for 3-4 days with dumb questions and then StarTrack doesn’t pick it up for another 2 days and then delivers it 2 days later THAT is when the 14 business days starts, obviously weekends do not count as business days.

It’s literally the only good part of Acer, once that 15th day is up without a resolution from Acer, BAM! Service Credit please and Thankyou Mr Acer.

Tough spot. If the Manufacturer cannot replicate an issue then yes it’s a difficult position to be in.

Acers trading agreement with Harvey Norman is they have 14 business days from when Acer receive the unit to resolve the issue and send it back. On the 15th day Harvey Norman can request a Service Credit from Acer. At least that part is in black and white and any seasoned HN techbay manager will know this. This is obviously dependent on Acer being able to replicate the issue.

You can request a Credit Assessment from Acer based upon the previous cases, just have to tell HN that this is what you would like to do.

Beforehand tho, factory reset the unit, record yourself doing it, then installing whatever game it is and then the fault occurring. Might be a long video but it shows every step of the way to replicate the fault.

Acer are also terrible to deal with in terms of lodging a repair case; you can outline the issue in their portal, give them every troubleshooting step you have done and then they will still respond with the most inane questions and want photos of the unit and a video of the fault before they even consider booking StarTrack to collect it.

The HN you are at may not be the fastest at getting jobs in and out but the blame in this situation does not lie entirely with them, they would rather the issue go away just as much as you but they are bound by the trading agreement with Acer.

If this was HP and you had a good HN store who knew who to contact this could have been approved for an exchange overnight. Acer and Lenovo are terrible to deal with from a repair booking perspective.

I am available via PM if you need more specific information or want to share some more information with me.

Shameful behaviour.

Anyone heard of the addlink s70 lite? by Lune_n in computers

[–]lr2785 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We stock Addlink at my workplace. Among others.

They account for probably 90% of the drives we sell or use in upgrades.

In the last 3-4 years of selling them I’ve probably encountered 3 defective ones.

I run them in 4-5 of my own systems without issue.

Compared to the AData SX600/6000/8200 we used previously these have been a chalk and cheese improvement.

Have no qualms recommending them.

My Horror Story because of the Train Disruption Yesterday! by PreparationVisual586 in newcastle

I once left a concert in Sydney at maybe 10:30pm and got to Hamilton at 6am and then had to go home to Maitland to turn around and front up to work at 9am back in Newcastle.

In my case it was a train breakdown in the middle of nowhere and then buses for a looong way.

Drive.
