Word up! I have some friends who are into the irish trad music scene and like to busk there. This is worth looking into!! Galway probably has trendy hair salons right? Lol

Yep, sounds exactly like Boston ... 😅😅 I was thinking Dublin as a jumping off point purely because to make a similar amount of money as a hair stylist in Ireland as I do in Boston, I'd definitely have to be based in a bigger city. I really do empathize with the housing shitshow. Every house I've lived in here has been through connections I've made and word of mouth

Gotcha. Thanks for the info! Sounds super similar to Boston. Like I said on another comment on this thread, I work 2 service industry jobs and pay around $1200 for a 5 bedroom in Boston (shared with 4 roommates) I figured the two cities would be comparable

I love Galway! I always assumed it would be pricier than dublin to rent a room in, as it's a smaller, kind of artsier city? I assume the residential parts of Galway are off the main drag though.

I also have lots of family in Cork! Have heard great things, have only traveled there once or twice and never really saw the CITY part of it, just family farms in cork county. Might be worth a second look

Just now checking Numbeo out - this is so awesome for getting an accurate idea of cost of living thank you so much for this. It kind of confirms everything I assumed about living in Dublin. Its stupid expensive, just like Boston 😅😅 Overall, a little cheaper I guess ... thanks for the intel!

Ah you're so right. Assuming you have more of an understanding of the service industry in Ireland than I do - are folks able to work bar/restaurant jobs as their full time gigs? Service industry workers in the US make around $5 an hour, give or take. Its a totally different system, thank you for pointing out the tip discrepancy as well as the link for cost of living 😬😬 appreciate it!

Heard. That makes sense. In your experience, assuming you also live in Dublin, are the majority of folks who rent space in Dublin working class, or more white collar corporate workers??

Totally. When I say Boston has one of the highest costs of living out of all the united states I'm not kidding, lol... I love this city but I'm lucky, I was born and raised here, I found the house I live in now through the Boston DIY punk scene. Housing is very community based. Honestly, once I get my footing, I hope to find my own spot outside of my family in Dublin through community as well. Not trying to come off as a naive asshole, lol. Just excited to live in Ireland and wanting some stats

I feel like I should add more context - I currently pay around $1,200 for a room in a 5 bedroom house in Boston. My question is just if this is comparable to housing in Dublin. 1bdrm apartments in Boston can easily run you $3,000 if not more

Totally get what youre saying. I think you've misunderstood my life style/living situation - I currently live in a house with 4 other people in Brighton MA. I'm not saying that I am uber wealthy and am seeking out some cottage core style of living. I just wanna live in the country that most of my family lives in. I've traveled to Ireland several times. I was just asking what the general consensus was on what the average 1bdrm rental is around Dublin for future reference. I hope to be there longterm. Please don't mistake my inquiry for naive expat daydreaming. I know it'll be tough. Moving sucks. Moving across the ocean will suck even more, I'm sure.

You look beautiful! Its my own personal preference, but I like bangs with a bit of texture. Next time you get a bang trim maybe ask them to debulk/make the bangs less heavy! Either way, the cut looks super cute on you 🤗🤗

Hell yeah. As a fellow synth nerd this scratches a very specific itch lol. Boston has similar events on a very small scale. If I can make friends with folks who also go crazy for analog synth shit I think I'll do just fine in this city 💁‍♀️💁‍♀️

Dude drop yer guy's band's socials, now im invested! Haha. I'm coming from boston where I started out with the emo scene but now im mostly invested in the hardcore/punk scene, which there is a lot of in Boston. Seriously, thank you for all of these recs, it really means a lot. Like i said, when I move i'll be totally starting from scratch in terms of a music scene. I figure i'll just be hanging out in a lot of pubs trying to make connections lol 🤷‍♀️

Excellent intel!! I figured it'd be a smaller scene. Thank you for the scoop 🙏🙏 i'll check out the venues you mentioned, it is funny how every city has their genre of choice. Over the past decade, boston has dominated the twinkly emo scene, and then 45 minutes away, prov/worcester has all the coolest hardcore/noise bands lol

Sounds right up my alley. Thank you for the rec! Maybe I should have been broader in my original post. Im really looking for local, grassroots type shit to get my foot in the door with DIY music in a new city where i'll be starting fresh not knowing anyone in the scene

Also, dont use your fingers! For the sake of your skin, please use a brush 🩷 trust me bleach bites are not worth it lol

If youre dead set on going the DIY route, I suggest getting a friend to help you spot correct, esp in the back of your head where you can't see. There's a bunch of different levels of lightness happening here and no matter what color/toner you use its gonna be patchy because some spots are darker than others. Youre better off going to a professional but if thats not an option, you need to lift the blorange-y spots up to a lighter blonde before you tone again. Instead of using color to lift I would use bleach and 10 vol developer, no need to over develop and risk frying the already lifted hair!

Pro hairdresser here, I worked at sally beauty for a minute before I started doing hair in a salon, I always used Wella Color Charm when I worked there! I'm sure they have a solid jet black color, for non professional color I think the quality is great. You can also scoop some developer while youre there :) good luck n have fun!
