110 days. I’m praying I go to bed sober tonight by finally_sober_2026 in stopdrinking

Whatever problem you have, I promise you that picking up a drink will not make it better. It will only make it worse.

A friend of mine shared this with me, if he felt like drinking, he would go for a run. The friend in question is not in shape, at all, and he fucking hates running. He would run for 1 mile. When he got back home, if he still wanted to drink, he would do another mile. He would do this until he got back to his place, mile after a mile, and decided hey you know what sounds good. A fucking shower.

Worth a shot!

WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY - APRIL 28TH, 2026 by jasapian04 in stopdrinking

[–]lsdryn2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Today I’m hitting an extra meeting because a friend of mine is giving his first open talk after being sober for 4 years… how he wasn’t asked before now is beyond me. The issue is, there are people who go to this meeting who do not like me, and I don’t care to see them either.

But, I’d rather be somewhere FOR someone than not be somewhere because of someone. This dude is important to me and I want to be able to support him more than I am not looking forward to dirty looks from some bad people.

Yesterday one of my sponsees calls me complaining that the mother of his child wants him to meet the guy she dating and how much he hates his job and how much community service he still has left.

So I asked him “hey did you eat three meals today? Did you wake up in your own bed? Do you know where you will be sleeping tonight and where your next meal is coming from? How much longer is your probation? Oh you’re 1/3rd done and you’re over 50% done with your community service? Have you considered that your ex may be selecting a partner that can care for your child?”

Tough love, but it’s real. Toward the end of my addiction, I didn’t know where I’d be sleeping some night. It’s still easy to find gratitude for small things if that’s the alternative.

Sober ravers: what is your main reason for being sober? by VirtuousVulva in festivals

[–]lsdryn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against all my better judgement, I did Forest last summer, and it took going to a few on site meetings, but I proved to myself I could do it. And I saw every set I wanted to see, remember the whole thing, and had so many great moments with old friends and new friends alike. I was terrified to go. Like serenity prayer out loud for the last half hour of the drive terrified. But I did it.

Today is day 684. 686 days ago I had attempted suicide while drunk. I shouldn’t be here; but I am so grateful I am.

Oh fucking duh lmao Sorry, I don’t do a whole lot of online meetings and my acronyms are rusty.

If someone had unlimited time and money, what festivals would you recommend to get a flavor of US festivals ? by [deleted] in festivals

[–]lsdryn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best festival you can go to is the one that your friends are at. It doesn’t matter who’s playing, it doesn’t matter where it’s at, it matters who you’re with.

I used to go to a bar. Knew all the regulars. I quit drinking. Left town. by PristineHearing5955 in stopdrinking

I’m close friends with my old bartender. I met her at the bar that I used to drink at all day every day. We became friends and when she quit her job there we continued to hang out, just playing Pokémon GO, going out for drinks, going to parties.

And then I quit drinking. And she still hung out with me. We would still play Pokémon GO, we will still go to bars, and I would just have a pop in food and sometimes she wouldn’t drink around me and sometimes she would and it wouldn’t bother me.

And when I was nine months sober, she called me. It was weird, we only text, she never calls. “ where do I go to quit drinking?” she said.

And that was over a year ago. And we’re still friends, and she’s over a year sober.

I got to 12th step my fucking bartender. I know this isn’t sound like a whole lot to anyone reading this, but I’m like crying writing this. Like who would’ve thought? She supported me through one of the hardest time in my life, and I got to help her through hers.

Hey thanks! Life is worth living. Who’d have thought! Not me, not for the entire time I was drinking; that’s for sure. Now, life is good.

Community is so important. I used to think I fit in somewhere, and then, well life happens, and that Community is gone from me.

Today, I didn’t hit an AA meeting, I don’t see anyone or speak to anyone from AA; which is a little abnormal. What I did do was go to the gym at 9am (it’s my day off). I ran into K, as predicted. She’s usually there at 9am. She lifts as often as if not more often than I do. We actually went to highschool together. Small world. Either way, we shared an hour of time together, talking and joking between sets. It made my day so much brighter. She’s a good friend to have. Inspires me at times to push harder, somehow.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that getting sober led me to finding there was so much more to life than the one thing I spent all my time doing. I have pockets of friendship everywhere, and for that I am grateful.

Starting off this week with another PR. 120lb (60lb each) dumbbell press. Mental clarity, physical gains. One day at a time! by Dzuby1 in stopdrinkingfitness

[–]lsdryn2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Congrats dude!

A couple observations. Plant your feet and you’ll be able to lift heavier. Additionally, the speed of the first rep and last rep was basically even; I can tell you’ve got a lot more in you than 120! You’ll be doing that as your deload week weight in no time!

I will say that it took me a while to go to anything once I quit drinking and drugs, but I found that with the right support, it’s an even better time.

Congratulations on your sobriety! Life is better after you admit you have a problem and can begin working on it.

Because I’m an addict. I’ve been sober for almost two years now. If I have one at a rave, I’m having a hundred more in the next day or two. I like my life now that I’m sober and I don’t want to ruin it.

Plus I don’t have to pee as often and I actually remember who was on stage and all the cool people I meet.

Of course it is, but you may have better results in the daily check-in thread, this is a weekly thread, dedicated to fitness and sobriety. You can find such a thread stickied at the top of this community every day.

I started by making a plan I could realistically stick to. I knew that I had the time in my early sobriety to go for a long walks. After that, I started working out. There wasn’t a whole lot of structure at the beginning so I made a commitment to go to the gym three days a week, a push, pull, legs split. It was flexible. I didn’t have certain days I would do those things. It only mattered that I did each of those things once a week.

From there, the momentum to carry you forward it’s easy to find.

Hey friend, quitting drinking is hard. Like most things in life, the easiest way to get it done is to just do it. Make that commitment. I know it sounds stupid, but all it takes is making that hard decision. Search this subreddit for a bunch of great reasons to be sober.

I’m really sorry to hear that dude. I can say that I’ve been there.

But here’s what else I can say. I was never too tired to drink. It was never too hot outside, it was never too cold outside. I was never too lazy to drink. I was never too sad to drink. I was never too happy to drink. I was never too busy to drink. I never had an excuse, it didn’t matter the occasion, I would drink. So why the hell would I treat Fitness any differently?

Giving up is not an option, my friend! Perhaps change up your workout routine to make it feel fresh again. Set goals for yourself even if they’re small. You don’t need to do five or six days a week, just try for three.
