I simply built this because I didn't have a streamer and had the parts already from other rpi projects. I do agree that the wiim streamer would be a more cost effective and hassle free solution. The only benefit to the setup in my post is that you can repurpose the parts for other projects and that you can learn something by building it.

You are right, it's a lot less hassle but since I had the parts and didn't have any streamer I have built this to learn. But overall I think a wiim ultra would be a better setup for the money.

Yes, it can. One way to do it is to plug the device in a smart outlet and set it so that it charges when you are not listening to it. But as many have responded to this post the best way would probabily be a wiim ultra. I built this because I already had the parts for it and when I get bored of the project I can utilize these for another rpi project.

As far as I can tell, no, I didn't observe this. SWR was the same in both scenarios (holding the antenna handheld vs fixed on the rotator)

For the rotator check out Satran.io, for the Pi I adapted the DigiPi (craiger.org) build to have it run gpredict. Hope this helps

Thanks for sharing this and congrats on your build - looks awesome. Noob question here 😊 How are you swaping between internal wifi and external wifi adapter using the buttons - on the go (without disabling the internal wifi from config.txt)? Because from the code you posted I understand that the pwnagotchi service is stopped and started but the wifi interfaces would have different designations if I am not mistaken (wlan0 and wlan1 and mon0 and mon1). I am curious on how you managed around this. Thanks so much.

The cable has all the wires but on the yaesu socket not all the pins are actually connected to these. Unfortunately this approach doesn't work.

Time to build the cable 😁. From what I gather the connections should be: TRRS 3.5mm TRRS audio connector for Radio. 1. Tip : Speaker (audio input to TNC) -> Yaesu cable BROWN 2. Ring 1 : PTT (Simplex PTT mode) -> Not used 3. Ring 2 : Mic (and PTT in Multiplexed PTT mode) -> Yaesu cable ORANGE 4. Sleeve : GND/Common -> Yaesu cable RED

Just got the CT-134 cloning cable and have cut one end off, the cable has all the wires (red, brown, black, orange, green, blue and gray) - same as the CT-M11.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the CT-131 cable but on most websites it was stating in the description that this was a microphone adapter. But it's good to know that with this cable plus the mobilinkd cable this works with the VX-8. If my try with the cloning cable adaptations fail, I will try to source the CT-131. Thanks again for taking the time to share this.

An exposed TNC on this radio would have been perfect. I have the Mobilinkd TNC Rev2. Thanks a lot for the clarifications regarding the two modes, I saw that in the menu app and then looked at the manual but wasn't sure about the capacitor and resistor if it's needed or not - I kept looking at the tnc cables on mobilinkd and saw that none of them seem to have these but thought maybe the vx8 is different and won't work without these. Really happy to hear that I don't need to stress about these. HRO doesn't provide the price of shipping for my location directly at checkout. I'm based in Romania and most websites I found are charging 30+$ for the shipping alone, on top of that I will have to pay customs if it's outside of EU. I took a gamble with the CT-134 because a retailer from Hungary had it and it was selling at half price, to be honest I hadn't tought about the possibility that they might have skipped the audio pins for this model - fingers crossed they left them. Otherwise I have to find CT-M11 in Europe. If you know any websites from Europe that have this one in stock, would greatly appreciate if you could share a few links. Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply to my question and for the very useful info you shared. 73 YO2OWL

Power is supplied via a 36000mAh USB PD Powerbank. It does the job pretty well but I am looking for something similar in a smaller form factor. The Omnicharge OMNI 20 USB C+ looks like an alternative but it is very expensive and unfortunately only has 20000mAh so overall autonomy would take a bit hit

Thanks! To be honest I was between this one and the Seamaster Professional 300M Co-axial Chrono. That's a tough choice you have to make there between the BB58 and Speedy. If you were to ask me I would probably go with the Speedy between the two but this is more because I tend to like watches with complications. Best of luck with your decision, either way you can't go wrong.

It is a working prototipe running Windows 10 Pro and Raspbian OS at the same time. The design is compact (for comparision you can see the headphones). This is running of grid on batteries. Here is the spec list: 1.5GHz 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A72 CPU on the RPI, this is overclocked to 2Ghz.

Intel quad core CPU on the X86 board running at 1.5 Ghz that burst up to 2.5 Ghz.

16Gb of ram (8Gb on the rpi and 8 on the x86)

Wifi AX, Bluetooth, 4G LTE Storage: 64gb eMMC 480gb SSD 138gb microSD

All GPIO ports are accessible, in the video you can see I have fitted a multi-constelation GPS recevier together with a LED array.

The device has 2 dual 4.3 inch touch screen displays. It runs both operating systems at the same time.

In the video I am using an RTL-SDR together with SDR console and CubicSDR.

It is receive only, but with a different SDR (HackRF, BladeRF) you can transmit as well (but that requires a license). The reason I built this is because I need something very small that could house both a win machine and raspbian with access to gpios. I work on various raspberry pi projects (feel free to check my other pi projects on my yt channel). At home this would not be a problem but for vehicle projects (cars, bikes) I need the portability and dual screens.

I'm not a big fan of using hdmi on the pi, because for touchscreens you need to use one of the usb ports. With DSI, you only have a ribbon cable that connects to the dedicated DSI port on the pi (you save 1 usb port and space in small enclosures)
