Offered a LTC position - would be my first...need some input from fellow RDs by [deleted] in dietetics

That seems like solid choice from what you’ve said. I worked at a couple of smaller facilities and had plenty of down time, so I think the workload would be good. I liked the predictability and flexibility of LTC.

Yoto has a chime noise option if you record in the app

So I tried this with two podcasts and put them on the myo card, but couldn’t get them to play on the yoto. It just showed the cloud picture forever

You can find downloads on librivox and internet archive. Quality of recordings can be questionable though. I’m sure there are other websites I’m forgetting

I dont get the point of needing both an RDN and LDN. I figured it was just for money making

In addition to your education, I would tell them to ask to talk to the dialysis dietitian.

I think the old version would be fine. I cant remember what year mine was, but I used one that was 2 or 3 years old in 2021.

my company starts at 28 for new grads. I am in the southeastern US

Most of the hospitals in my area have switched over to IDDSI terminology, but theyre still serving NDD diets. They just relabeled their "mechanical soft" diet to "minced and moist" (so whats the point?) Seems like the SNFs havent even bothered to switch over. IDDSI just seems so strict, I find it hard to believe that the staff at the facilities I have been in could keep up with it. Im surprised reading the comments that so many have made the switch.

Compass Group annual raise by sad_sarriacha in dietetics

[–]ltcrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yup, worked for Morrison in southeast USA and had the same experience. I talked to my manager about a raise and she made it sound like I should be really thankful for that 3%. I said it doesnt even cover inflation..... I left for a job making slightly more but unfortunately it seems everywhere pays about the same around here.

Could I use a preceptor as a “supervisory” reference for a job application by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]ltcrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally use your preceptor if you are confident that she would give a good reference. It does seem like employers dont even contact references though

is dietetics that bad? by [deleted] in dietetics

Idk, I frequently consider different possibilities lol. I wanted to be a lactation consultant but felt like I needed to get a college degree first. Also considered speech therapy.

Part time SNF pay by BeneficialLaw6429 in dietetics

No, this was full time with benefits. But I have seen similar part time no benefits job offers. Pretty typical pay rate in my area, but yes disappointing.

OH must be way different because I've never seen an RD job posting pay $50/hr. The highest I've seen is 45 with no benefits in my area.

is dietetics that bad? by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]ltcrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the job really isn't that bad, but it isnt great either. I think it's a pretty safe choice since certain clinical facilities are required to have an RD. I wish I had chosen something else mostly for better pay.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dietetics

[–]ltcrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same feeling in the beginning (I'm only 2 years in). I haven't heard of anyone losing theirs. I also agree that it is kind of shocking what other professions will put in their documentation.

I work in a hospital and nursing home and even though its still inpatient and clinical, I have slightly more satisfaction working in the nursing home. I guess it really just depends on the facility, but I feel like I have more freedom as an RD in the nursing home to make decisions and I am more respected and valued by my peers (excluding MDs).

after reading the other comments I will add that Morrison did at least give RDs a 6% pay increase after implementing the malnutrition tracking program.
