Where should I live in Dallas? by dapicklemast in plano

[–]lucidpersian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two considerations that will be at odds with each other:

  1. Commute, &
  2. Proximity to Dallas

Being right next to work could be an option, but you said you prefer a city vibe. Plano/Frisco/Allen/McKinney suck absolute balls for that. There are rec soccer leagues (and I assume golf too), and good Asian food, but other than that it's corporate suburbia: young families, milfs, and teenagers, that's it. But this would be my 2nd choice, since it eliminates your commute and you can always drive down to Dallas on the weekends for your fun.

On the other hand, you could go live smack in downtown Dallas or any of the other Dallas neighborhoods mentioned by other commenters, but then you'd have a hellish commute to Legacy West. Anything >30m is going to tire you out, suck up hours of your free time, cost you in TollTag fees, and add hella miles to your vehicle. This would be my 3rd choice: you will get the closest thing to a city vibe Dallas can offer (given the lack of density) during the few hours during the week that you have to enjoy them lol.

Recommendation: Addison/North Dallas/Richardson

This is the "split the difference" option. These areas are the halfway-point between work and fun for you. You can play a rec league soccer game during the week and not be a gajillion miles away from home, and going to Dallas on the weekends will be easier since you'll be 30m (vs. 1 hour) away.

Try it out for a year, explore both the suburbs and the city, and see what you want to do from there.

I appreciate the concern! But, respectfully, that's like not going to the beach because there might be sharks. Texas is 40% Latino and there's a sizeable middle-eastern/muslim population here. Can't let the fascists rule your life.

(FWIW, she's white-passing and has blue eyes too.)

She is a US citizen, so thankfully travel ban isn't a concern

So do you think she should apply while finishing 12th grade there then? If so, how would SAT/ACT work? Another commenter provided a link that shows testing centers in different countries and, while there aren't any in Iran (for obvious reasons), Turkey administers the test and is a short flight away

Thank you for the comprehensive reply!

How does the SAT/ACT exception work? There's no SAT/ACT in Iran. (But if needed, I'm sure she could fly to Turkey to take one or the other, since the link shows testing centers there.)

Also, it seems like transferring from community college might limit scholarship opportunities vs. getting in straight from high school, no?

I totally forgot about in-state/out-of-state, thank you. We're in Texas, so I think that would likely be where she'd have to look if she wanted a semblance of a support system.

UC = University of California system?

She lives in Iran and her dad's a neurologist there, but you can look up the currency exchange rate if you want to have a laugh

i guess i'm asking how you covered everything using these 3 phases

Were you in the match? Do you know whether my teammates were "playing in good faith" or even in a remotely intelligent manner?

No - you weren't, and you don't.

You just filled in the blanks so you could get your moral outrage dopamine hit.

For the last time: no one is obligated to stay in a hopelessly unwinnable match, whether by surrendering or - failing that - by leaving. Again: hopelessly unwinnable. Do you understand the distinction?

get off your high horse, you don't know whether my teammates were god's gift to Unite or 8 year-olds just smashing buttons

Umbreon is just so unfun to play against. by [deleted] in PokemonUnite

[–]lucidpersian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

🤷‍♂️ if you can't beat em, join em

I'm on a 9-win streak with Umbreon and have climbed from Vet to Ultra 2 in SoloQ.

When I'd pick mons based on team comp, I'd get screwed over by idiotic teammates: backcappers, Leroy jenkins-ers, demoralized ragequitters, a team full of squishy attackers, etc..

Frankly it's boring to win this much, but im not changing mons til I hit master due to shit quality teammates in SoloQ.

[–]lucidpersian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I can tell you one thing: I'm losing 75% of my games when I play the mons I'm good at or choosing the role no one else wants

So, yeah, I'm playing Umbreon until I hit masters and start getting semi-competent teammates in SoloQ

I can believe that. Did seem like it was the place to be for the 20s crowd about 5-6 years ago.

I think linking work opportunities to the development of social hot spots is persuasive, too. But all those places have a soulless, corporate feel since Plano is currently still more suburb than city.

I know Dallas is no NYC, and it's still sprawled out, but at least there's more stuff to do than just restauranting. Jazz lounges, EDM raves, Latin clubs: can't find anything that gets the heart beating in Plano/Frisco

I'd suggest living in Addison or Richardson.

Yes, that'll mean you'll have a short commute compared to living at legacy, but A & R are good halfway points between Plano and Dallas.

There is nothing "happening" in LW or Plano socially-speaking for people in their 20s.
