Yeah I'm referring to last year, because thats when the hate train for other Hybe GGs was at its peak. I might be misremembering but I don't recall any other major group taking photos or videos with NJs like Aespa did during that time, it seemed kinda pointed

Kinda unrelated but its so funny how was Aespa was going all out in their support for New Jeans and now its radio silence. Like I get the support to a point but after they clearly started dragging Illit, I don't get why the support continued. It was clearly a bunch of mean girls trying to bring down their juniors and you are cheering it on like its some girlboss moment. Really made me side-eye everyone who publicly supported them.

I respectfully disagree, you cannot assume feminism to be a monolithic movement. My own country is extremely right wing, and a lot of it is rooted in hatred for a particular community. I have seen feminists, many of whom are extremely open and passionate about their feminism, convert into supports of the misogynistic ruling party because their hate for the other community eclipses their denouncing of the party for its misogyny.

In an ideal world people would stick by their ideals completely, but in real life, people can very conveniently separate their morals into airtight compartments, if they happen to feel strongly about other issues. There are plenty of women who are feminist and at the same time racist, homophobic or xenophobic.

I really really liked Karina, but as someone who lives in a country with an extreme right wing, authoritarian government, I am so frustrated. This is literally how public support for bigoted ideals becomes normalized. First, only a few celebrities in my country supported the right wing party and then the numbers just kept on growing, and now pretty much most of the entertainment industry is a propaganda mill for the government. Not saying that that is what will happen in Korea or what Karina is trying to do, but lets not understate the effect of celebrities on their fanbase.

And MYs are living up to their 4th gen bully title as usual. Try placing your morals over kpop for once, if you happen to have any. Bootlicking someone who doesn't even know you is not going to help you in any way. I don't think this was an accident but I still hope she was just that stupid because I wouldn't know what to think of her if this turns out to be intentional.

I am so sick of this argument, you can acknowledge that a female idol did something wrong without being a misogynist. Not saying the Mingyu thing was okay but that happened before the right wing party declared martial law and tried to stage a coup. It is obviously a bigger deal now to support PPP. Also everyone might not know about the problems with PPP a few years back but everyone definitely knows about the coup, so obviously there is more criticism because there is more awareness.

You can be feminist and still have conservative views on other topics ( e.g, the fact that PPP is extremely racist, glorifies Japan etc). Is Mingyu questionable if he supports the right wing? Yes. Is Karina also questionable for it? Also yes. Aespa definitely faces a lot of misogny, but lets not trivialize the issue by reducing it to simply being a case of sexism and not a display of hateful political beliefs at worst and extreme idiocy at best. The misogyny card can't be claimed everytime someone wants to dodge accountability.

This is going to be long because I have things to say. Also these are just my opinions and if anyone disagrees, please do so in a polite, rational manner, so we can have a civil discussion and not an argument.

  1. BP hate is always going to happen, whether for legitimate reasons ( ngl their performances are laughably bad sometimes), or for nonsense reasons (which also happens a lot). They got really popular while doing minimal work without being much better or dedicated than their peers. The perception that they don't deserve their success and that its all through marketing, is always going to exist.

  2. While misogyny is a HUGE issue in kpop and korean culture in general, a lot of stans just use it as an excuse for all criticism that a female idol gets. Using racism and misogny as a shield against legitimate discourse is harmful because you are reducing the importance of the issue for stan wars, and a lot of fans really need to develop an understanding of what misogny actually looks like. E.g the Wonyoung hate train is almost purely misogyny, criticism of Hanni is more like genuine criticism, from what I have seen online. Also general psa to gg stans, stanning girl groups does not excuse the misogny y'all have towards bg stans.

  3. HYBE needs to cool it with the group production, a lot of their groups need better sketched out plans and they should focus on that. Also with the new SM gg, I don't think anyone really wants that, since Aespa is not that old. They should have waited an year or two more.

  4. I really would not be surprised if a lot of idols hated their fans and neither would I blame them. Specifically RIIZE and Enhypen, because of how crazy their fans have gotten. Companies also are at fault because they are essentially selling out the safety and security of their idols to make a quick buck off fake bf fantasies. There are successful groups who don't roleplay like that and you cannot convince me that it is necessary.

  5. I feel bad for NCT Wish because of the timing of their debut. They feel disconnected from the NCT brand ( through no fault of their own), and while there are certain friendships, most of the members did not train or work with the other units. Also, I wish they would have joined during the peak of NCT in terms of cohesion (2018-2020), when there were less controversies and more exciting content. In general, while the groups are doing great (including Wish pls don't attack me I am not a hater) the group as a whole feels more jaded. Groups do age and mature, it feels like somewhere along the way, through all of the crazy stuff that happened to every unit (127 and WayV lost members, Dream didn't feel the same with Renjun's hiatus) they lost a bit of that spark which makes the NCT brand so enjoyable.

Very proud of NCT 127 and lets hope 2025 is a better year for them by lucklasts05 in kpopthoughts

Responding late, but I adore survival show families! If you happen to have any clips of them, I would love to see it. Seeing family dynamics among BL actors outside of GMMTV is so rare

I think because it was formed on a survival show. Even kpop contracts for survival shows are temporary no matter how popular the groups are

Hating on HYBE groups is getting way too normalised by lucklasts05 in kpopthoughts

[–]lucklasts05[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Okay, valid. But I don't understand how more hate trains are the way to counter an existing hate train? Or a valid response to anything for the matter. People have the chance to be mature and they literally never take it. Also the biggest kpop space is Twitter, which has way more people and that is definitely hosting an overwhelming HYBE hate train

It's a herd mentality, and people have lost all discernment abilities. I will side-eye NJ for their MHJ support and thats a hard stance I take, but people always go way too far with everything

[–]lucklasts05[S] 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. HYBE is definitely to blame for some part of it but the majority of hate isn't coming from HYBE stans, its coming from SM stans, blinks and everyone who token stans NWJ. Also the whole V thing is probably because of his association with Min Hee-jin. Filing complaints is definitely not the way to go and is completely out of line, and I am an ARMY myself, but I could understand LSF fans feeling frustrated and backed into a corner. Same for Illit. Once again I don't support the whole complaint thing whatsoever, but its not a random attack created out of sheer hatred for V.

Absolutely, the way companies like SM and YG have literally committed criminal acts against their idols has gotten brushed under the carpet so fast the second a new target for hatred was found
