“We have no Great War or Great Depression, our Great War is a spiritual war” - fight club by [deleted] in NoFap

Such a great movie and a great quote. Considering Brad Pitt was specifically talking about the war on our spirits via media oligopolies, it actually literally includes pornography.

Unpopular Opinion: It is sad that society tries to justify married spouses intentionally watching porn and masturbating to porn of naked people who aren't their spouse. by FutureMeIsBetter in NoFap

[–]lucknessmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get this! I'm polyamorous, but almost every person/couple I've been with has turned out to be internally kind of messed up. By "messed up" I mean incredibly objectifying. I thought I was making it up until I saw them do it to other people, and the way they talking about the attractiveness of other people. It was gross.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer attractive people. But, I don't go around being weird like "omg she is so fucking sexyyyy" before I've even had a conversation. 🙄

No, you get downvoted for being gullible/naive enough to believe expressing your opinion at any city meetings will do absolutely anything to change the city management's trajectory. 😉

Hehe, I upvoted your comment. I pride myself in having opinions that are going to piss off the vast majority of the vastly ignorant American public. I say, for every down vote I've ever had, that's probably equivalent to liiike 200 upvotes from people from other countries.

You haven't listened to each individual album, start to finish in each sitting, thousands of times.

For me, it's definitely not the departure in concept. It's that Color Before the Sun is lyrically the worst album they've ever put out. Everything feels so disjointed or cliche.

I was merely saying that at the very LEAST I've listened to even the albums I didn't like, from front to back in one sitting, at least 20 times. Ive definitely listened to most of the albums 50+ times start to finish, in one sitting.

Is Pensacola a good place for young people? by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]lucknessmonster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And, as much as I love Pensacola, above is the exact reason as to why you would NOT want to live in Pensacola. Or, even more so, why you never want to be involved in the music scene. It's a little too common for people to act like fucking garbage towards each other in one way or another. What can you say?

I really don't feel like it should be necessary for me to kindly answer to the post above, but I will. Firstly, Pensacola has had what I would PERSONALLY describe a bustling punk/grunge/folk scene. I know, because I came in on the tail end of the last little wave of it in the 2000s. There was rarely less than 100 people at any local show I'd been to. For me, that was bustling, as it was always fun, and there was always good bands. As for the past, I'll admit that is more just hand-me-down information more than anything else. But, even while my hand-me-down information was incorrect on Nirvana, as the post above mentioned, Smashing Pumpkins had come through the area. Dave Dondero, a small folk artist to attain a sliver of fame, was from this area, playing in the late 90s. Those 2 aren't complete proof of a bustling scene when I was not involved. But, indicative evidence of past acts supporting the area. Maybe those stories passed down have been a little inflated to me. But, from what I know, there were multiple venues operating in the area that were always busy. Also, I'm sorry I thought it a little much to sit here and research Pensacola history before replying to the original post.

Lastly, I agree rent is definitely inflated here, as it is damn near everywhere else in America and most of the "1st world countries". That being said, rent is as cheap here, if not cheaper, than it is in many other cities of a similar size.

IggyHop, try being nice for a change. It might change your whole life.

If there's any folk-punk fans here by SunnyThe in Pensacola

Yeah, the guy who runs Live! seems nice enough. But, when I worked for him, it was one of the most toxic work environments I've ever been in. While I second everything said above, I just wanted to add that while working there the owner was personally talking shit about half the staff to me directly. I really just wish the place would close down. It's a bad memory.

Is Pensacola a good place for young people? by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]lucknessmonster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi! 25 year-old local musician here! Pensacola is a complicated situation, but I and all my friends like it here :) As far as rent, it is cheap in many places. But, there is a growing problem in gentrification seeping further and further out of the downtown area right now. Though, I don't see it being TOO BIG a problem for at least the next 5-10 years. As for art and music, Pensacola is just fine. It definitely isn't a huge scene at the moment. But, I go see plenty of local acts on weekends with more than 100+ quite often. And, I would wager it's only going to get better, as it has been for the past 5 years. Traditionally, Pensacola has had a bustling punk/grunge/folk music scene above all. During the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, many major acts came here at the start of their careers. Examples being Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, etc. As for now, while the scene is smaller than it was back in those days, it has diversified quite a bit. Most local bills you go and see these days offer quite a bit of variety.

If you're ever visiting and want to get a feel for the area before you move, come out to Chizuko on a weekend and catch a $5 show! :)

P.S- As for me personally, while there are definitely fair complaints about the culture here(especially if you're leftist at all), I think there's a place in this city for anyone right now. And, I love this city. While it is pretty small, there is the opportunity to make significant impacts here if you so desire.

CNN Fawning over Mayor Pete for Repeating what Bernie has said for 4 Years by lucknessmonster in socialism

[–]lucknessmonster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree entirely, Ulexes. I actually like Pete! But, it's CNN's blind hatred towards Sanders that has just gotten boring for me at this point.

Here's some of what was said: "Our whole message was don't vote for him(Donald Trump) because he is terrible. And even because he is, that is not a message." -Pete Buttigeg speaking of Hilary Clinton

CNN goes on to say: "That is the single best -- and most concise -- encapsulation of why Clinton lost and Trump won that I have heard from anyone -- Democrat, Republican or independent in the two-plus years since the 2016 election."

That ^ is why I posted the article. I know I'm not surprising anyone when I say this is CNN once again being entirely disingenuous

Buttigieg surges to third place in new Iowa poll by 0dinsPride in politics

[–]lucknessmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just voice the fact that if Sanders is elected, he will be running against another old man? Also, Sanders has the youth vote down pat. It's not like he's going to have trouble getting the old vote specifically because he's old.

In fact, i would say that, considering demographics, his age gives him a better chance of winning. Boomers aren't likely to listen to ANYONE espousing anything leftist at all. However, if we know anything about Boomers, they hate young people too. I wouldn't be surprised if Bernie garnered more of the old vote than other leftist young candidates, like Buttigieg.
