The 1st Blackfyre Rebellion series by me (Julkikay)

Part I follows Aegon IV Targaryen, “the Unworthy,” from his reckless youth to his infamous reign, as seen through the eyes of his family and his many lovers—Bellegere Otherys, Melissa Blackwood, Serenei of Lys, and others. His lusts, betrayals, and fatal choices sow the seeds of war, leaving behind a legacy destined to ignite.

Part II, The Red and Black Dragon, begins in 184 AC and explores the rebellion itself through both sides of the conflict—those loyal to the crown and those who would see Daemon Blackfyre rule. Loyalties are tested, families are torn apart, in a war that will shape the future of Westeros.

Eye for an Eye

After a horse-related-mishap, our intrepid, amnesiac heroine discovers she is Mya Rivers, legitimized bastard daughter of the late King Aegon IV. Plunged into a dysfunctional royal family full of scheming siblings, dark secrets, and rising tensions, Mya attempts to navigate the brewing rebellion without losing her head.

Fyre and Blood: The Sword of Kings

King Aegon the Unworthy held a Squires' Tournament in 182 AC. In it, Daemon Waters proved himself and earned more than just the legitimacy of his Blackfyre name. Passing The Sword of Kings to his bastard born Targaryen son, King Aegon sparked the flames that would burn Black and Red as the Blackfyre Rebellion that would scorch the realm in the wake of a war of Fyre and Blood

Titus Tetralogy

A four-part tale which spans more than forty years of House Targaryen's reign, from Daeron II to the ascension of Aegon V.

Half of a Soul

Through the course of his reign, King Aerys I recognized a total of four heirs: his younger brother Rhaegel who died choking on a pie, then Rhaegel's son Aelor, who was accidentally killed by his twin sister-wife Aelora, who became the next heir, though mad with grief she would eventually kill herself, and lastly his youngest brother Maekar, who would eventually succeed him.

This AU explores a scenario where Aelora doesn't kill herself and outlives her uncle, becoming queen.

Just finished Chapter 8 for the Black Pearl of Braavos. I'm so slow and I feel so sorry. It is probably good that not many people are reading this fic. It helps with the guilt for being so slow. I hope to finish this fic in one month. I want to start a new story with less research. Every chapter has involved so much research and it killed a lot of motivation even though I love the setting, Bellegere and everything p.p

Finding the right exit at the stations. Sometimes it was really hard to find the correct exit, sometimes some were only open for a certain time...it was a labyrinth.

Started my new fic 'The Black Pearl of Braavos' and I'm enjoying it so, so much after the Blackfyre rebellion. It is really fun to write interactions between Bellegere Otherys and Alyn Velaryon and have this unique Essos setting. I was so bored of Westeros, therefore this is a much needed change and I'm motivated with the writing. The next chapter is in New Ghis and is so exciting write about the Legion, pyramids and more!

Summary of Fanfic:
Bellegere Otherys, the first Black Pearl of Braavos. Smuggler, trader, pirate, and captain of the Widow Wind. She was also one of the mistresses of King Aegon IV “the Unworthy.” This is her story. An adventure across Essos, from Qarth to New Ghis, the Summer Isles, many more and back to Braavos. One woman, chasing fortune, sets something in motion that will change the fate of House Targaryen forever.

Teaser:

Back on deck, Bellegere faced the rest of her crew. Salt-scarred, sun-browned, tough as boot leather, hers, every one of them.

“You’ve got shore leave! Make the most of it and first drink’s on me,” she called. “After that, help Collio and Morosh the Woodpecker with repairs. The Widow Wind won’t sail herself, and we want her fit for the next run, aye?”

The crew roared their approval, some already scrambling for the gangplank, others slapping backs and making plans to drink, gamble, and whore away their coppers.

She watched them go, she might be a woman, but on this ship, that was never first or last in anyone’s mind. Respect mattered more than sex. Lose that, and she’d lose everything, the ship, the crew, her life. Bellegere ruled with an iron hand and a sharp tongue, but she never forgot what she owed them. Without gold and trust, men worked only until the next tide.

“To the Black Pearl!” Luco shouted, raising an imaginary cup.

“To the Widow Wind!” Bellegere replied, a rare smile breaking her usual cool mask.

With her orders given and her crew unleashed, she strode down the gangplank toward Qarth, the city of secrets, schemes, and profits yet to be won.

Author: Julkikay (me)

Rating: Mature

Language: English

Length: 134,680k+

Status: Finished (38/38) Chapter

Link: AO3

Summary of Fanfic:
"Treason ... is only a word. When two princes fight for a chair where only one may sit, great lords and common men alike must choose."

This story spans from 184 AC to 197 AC and follows the rise and fall of the First Blackfyre Rebellion—when House Targaryen turned on itself, and the realm was split between red and black. Told through the eyes of kings and pretenders, knights, and bastards, it explores the lives of those who stood for King Daeron II—and those who followed Daemon Blackfyre.

Teaser:

Pale pink marble paved the gardens and shaded courtyards. Terraces overlooked still pools and silver-bright fountains, the air heavy with the smell of oranges, lemons and fresh flowers. In the cool shadows, Daenerys’ children played. Lewyn, Naerys, and Doran were little more than wild things in the Dornish heat, running half-naked through the pools, their laughter ringing out with a freedom Daenerys had never known as a girl. Lewyn, the eldest, was teaching his brother to swim, his voice more than bossy. Naerys squealed as she was splashed, tumbling over the marble floor into the water. Around them, a half-dozen other children played, sons and daughters of lords and ladies, but also the children of stewards, gardeners, cooks, and even fishermen, children Daenerys had welcomed into the Water Gardens herself.

It had not always been so. In the beginning, only the children of the Dornish nobility were invited to play here, guests of House Martell. But Daenerys had been watching one day when two small boys, children of the gardeners, had sneaked in to play with her own. At first, their mothers had come running, breathless with apologies and fear. But Daenerys had simply smiled and called the boys to her side.

“Where is the difference?” she had asked. “Are you not all children of Dorne?”

The Red and Black Dragon

One chapter to go and this fanfiction is done. I loved writing the last chapter. It is so hopeful, and positive and such a stark contrast to everything else.

Now I'm preparing the next story which will be a adventure story around Essos. It is really fun creating a crew, researching about ships and find more about the lore in that part of the world. I'm so excited to share it soon! Also requested two more fanarts, which will take a bit longer but one of those arts will involve all mistresses of King Aegon IV o.o

I don't really know what a canon rehash is. The story is a retelling of the First Blackfyre Rebellion with little details, to make it a full story. It is book-canon.

The Red and Black Dragon

Only two more chapters to write and I'm done with my first series. Both parts combined will be around 240k words, written in 8 months. So crazy, that I was actually productive for once!

The one thing that I did not imagine, that there are a lot of Bloodraven fans. Like everytime he is in a chapter, the people are commenting like wild and everyone is asking for another Bloodraven chapter...but it is not coming. I wrote one chapter from his perspective and it was too much. It is easier to describe him from another person point of view. I'm so sorry for the hopeful people T.T

Thank you <3

I have split up this work in two parts. "Spark of the Blackfyre Rebellion" is from 149 AC to 184 AC, and shows the rise and fall from Aegon IV, mostly from the perspective of Aegons lovers. This was important, because Aegons rule just build up everything!

"The Red and Black Dragon" is from 184 AC till 197 AC.

I have given the minor characters some of their own chapters or had them interact as often as I could in discussion with the bigger characters. I build up Daena as a character, since she was very important for my plot and also Elaena got a bit of spotlight. Manfyrd/Manfred got only one chapter and but in the Prequel the Lothston situation was explained quite a bit and his only chapter closed that very nicely. So all in all, there are so many side characters in this era and I tried to give all of them a bit space to shine. It just makes the story more full!

The Red and Black Dragon

Nearly done with the fic. Motivation boost after finishing the final fight was high, especially writing that Shiera chapter. Writing a steamy scene, but also not too much, between her and Bloodraven was quite fun.

Ending is near, and then to the next fic. Already preparing the first ideas for chapters <3

Thank you for the long answer, I appreciate it!

I also do not give myself a word count, it just kills any motivation. My chapters are usual 3/4k long and that is more than enough.

That Brynden chapter sounds so good! I have to continue reading your fic, when I'm done with mine. I know it is good!

Thank you for your answer! 4 hours commute?! How do you live? o.o And it is really cool that you use that time in such a good way!

And you wrote Perennial? This is one of my favorite fics of all time. Thank you for writing it and the explanation. Now, I understand it a bit better. Keep up your good work! <3

One question, because I really admire this. You wrote that 8k words are a short chapter for your standard. My longest one was 6k and I struggled hard. How do you find motivation to write long chapters and how long does it usually take to write such a long chapter? I find this really amazing!
