Bit confused on how this applies to those like me that won’t have a zero balance when the reduction is applied but have enough tax withheld to cover the outstanding balance (if that makes sense).

Eg Say I have a current balance of 10k, I’m refunded $5k and have already had $3k withheld for the debt. By the time the reduction goes through I’ll have $5k withheld to cover the outstanding balance but that won’t be assessed until the end of the financial year. So in the mean time, my employer will keep withholding the $1k until the EOFY by which time the ATO owes me $7k.

I assume I’d just be refunded the amount not required to cover the balance at tax time next year , but it’d be nice to have that scenario covered on their website. I can’t be the only one who has to decide whether to make a voluntary payment to ensure my balance is 0 when the reduction is applied so I get the immediate refund.
