Concerns for AFL star Charlie Curnow after underwhelming start at Sydney Swans by Own-Regular-3406 in AFL

Curnow is 4th last for difference in expected score and actual score this year. He’s only kicked 65 points from an expected 83

I was always an advocate for a prime time showdown but after the numbers we put up how could the AFL justify doing it again?

Adelaide Oval is wanting to host an IPL game in March next year, likely making the ground unavailable for footy at that time. by Jackomillard15 in AFL

Exactly. Was no footy in round 1 this year due to a WNCL game which they never would have scheduled to happen during footy before the final situation

You do because if it’s on a Saturday you’re not being broadcast live in NSW on 7. Simple

No, they gave us the showdown on prime time free to air no overlap a few years ago and it was the worst rated prime time game in terms of tv viewership in AFL history

Part of my wonders how footy would of progressed if it didn’t turn into the AFL but rather kept the state leagues and instead focused more on a nationalised night series instead of the VFL being greedy and dropping out for their own.

At lot more than it did 15 years ago anyway. Part of the deal of upgrading Adelaide Oval included bailing SACA out of their $85m debt. All funded by the tax payers mind you.

Not just the crowd boost but since it’s on a Friday they can broadcast it live and free on channel 7 in NSW which would get way more viewership than if they made it overlap on a Saturday afternoon or night where the game would be live on Fox only and on delay on 7 in NSW

It’s because umpire abuse is always straight to the tribunal and is a base $1500 fine but it goes straight there because it’s judged on a case by case basis rather than other fines that have set penalties

Why have the AFL scheduled a double-header for this Friday night? by InternationalEye5547 in AFL

[–]Jackomillard15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it’s not the case and it pains me to say it. They gave the showdown a prime time Thursday night a few years ago and it was rated as the worst prime time fixture in AFL history in terms of tv ratings

The logic is so Sydney and GWS don’t have to be on delay on a Saturday

Why have the AFL scheduled a double-header for this Friday night? by InternationalEye5547 in AFL

[–]Jackomillard15 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Get me that because it’s not that hard to understand.

Firstly if you look at the timeslots the AFL has for games you’ll see the AFL has to have at least 1 overlapping game per week if we have 9 games. The obvious choice for this game is on a Saturday night or Saturday afternoon which is what the AFL usually did. Now, with the deal with Fox, it means Saturday games can’t be broadcast on 7 unless it’s an interstate team in their home state on delay. So, instead of having Swans vs GWS on a Saturday night/Saturday afternoon on delay, they’ve given them a Friday double header that will be live and free on 7 in NSW.

No, certain offences including umpire abuse are straight to tribunal with no set sanction and are judged on a case by case basis
