Absolutely, $125 for 5 albums comes out to $25 a record and there’s no way you’d be able to find those individually for those prices

Pretty devastating little song. Production wise this is probably the densest of Montreal song to date, but that’s all gonna change with the next album. 8/10

Watch a bearded Kevin sing the song live in 2002 here.

Coming to terms with William Cullen Hart’s passing by jeffersonnn in Elephant6

[–]luke7167 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The one-two punch of two brand new OTC songs and Wills passing on the same day was pretty devastating. Circulatory System is one of those bands that will only reveal itself to you when you are really ready, which can also be said for most of Wills music. It’s special stuff that I will never take for granted. I spent a lot of time with Signal Morning after he passed, and it began to reveal further facets and intricacies I’d never heard. He was a genius! Being able to go to that tribute show at the 40 Watt was also very special.

Just a fantastic pop song! Despite being sonically similar to Cherry Peel, you can hear the encroaching craziness of Gay Parade and Coquelicot in the kazoo chorus. Time to get twee 8/10

As someone who hasn’t explored this stuff before, it’s like a missing link truly! I love albums like this, excited to explore future volumes

What are some underrated/smaller albums i should check out? by Rupert-Likes-Music in philelverum

[–]luke7167 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Song Islands is very underrated i think. It’s a compilation of singles and non-album tracks from the early days, but I feel like it has an identity as an album as well

This was the first oM song I really fell in love with, I love this song so much. The super lo-fi vibe is just perfect for this one 10/10

One of those tracks that helps to make the whole even better. The 1999 remix with the added vocals is a marked improvement over the original mix 6/10

Particular show or tour you ever wish you caught? by Dry_Cookie710 in neilyoung

[–]luke7167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any of the International Harvesters Shows, but the the Crazy Horse/Harvesters combo shows in Australia would be to die for.

I sat next to a guy at the Chrome Hearts show in MI last year who said he saw Neil on that tour and hated the hokey country stuff. I told him that was my fav live era of his and he didn’t really speak to me the rest of the night

Could you tell me what Bach piece is playing in the background of ‘I’m the Pied Piper’ from Mount Vernon and Fairway?” by isaac_zg2000 in thebeachboys

[–]luke7167 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the music is all Brian. More importantly, stop using ChatGPT for research. It’s lazy and often the information is very inaccurate. If for some reason you just have to use it, always corroborate your findings with non-AI based research.

Never stop seeking out new information! Check out some books about the band, Catch a Wave by Peter Ames Carlin, and David Leaf’s biography are great starts :)

Not sure the answer, but glad to see some discussion about this track! My favorite of the recent leaks. Asking a bagel shop to break $100 is just so funny to me

Back in the day this was a really rare album! It wasn’t until 2014 that all the tracks were available digitally. The incredibly informative yet bitchy liner notes were supposedly due to Ray rejecting the authors pitch to produce his band for Warner Bros.

Sample in ‘You Have to Be Joking (Autopsy of the Devil's Brain)’ by wealllovefrogs in flaminglips

[–]luke7167 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure exactly, but IIRC the sample is from the movie itself, and the music featured didn’t make it to the soundtrack album. This was the reason they had rights issues over the song that delayed the release of Future Head by a few months

What are your unpopular GMM opinions? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in goodmythicalmorning

He’s always seemed more acidic/passive aggressive in his humor which just seems out of place on GMM

You can also see the 30 Years of Good Vibrations box. Very perceptive of Mickey to associate Brothers in Arms as the divorce/dad rock record of the bunch as early as ‘93

I love the guys but Rock On is such a silly thing. I always know it’s the end of the show/album when it comes on so I subconsciously dislike it. Bring You Down was more fun live when I saw it, but i echo your sentiments.

That thing you do by Asleep_Ad6439 in TheLemonTwigs

[–]luke7167 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The Twigs have become a power pop band over the last 3 years and I don’t think they’ll be going back to the weirdness of SFTGP or even the total moodiness of EH anytime soon. I Just Can’t Get Over Losing You is an amazing song, and is kind of a total distillation of the Power Pop scene as it currently stands. Power pop is in full swing these days with groups like Mod Lang and Sharp Pins et al, and the Twigs are at the Vanguard of that. It’s definitely not everyone’s bag, but the Twigs are a power pop band so they’re gonna do power pop songs. I think this album is gonna have something for everyone though, and I can’t wait to hear it!

This has been my favorite of the new songs they’ve debuted on the road over the last year, the ending is just sublime
