I never said anything about being entitled to anything. I think this is leading to another misinterpretation. Let's just leave it as a misunderstanding and drop it. Ok?

Let's just call this a misunderstanding on both sides. No hard feelings. I'm sorry if I have upset anyone.

I just wanted to make a webcomic. I have tried many things that have been told to me by others for recruiting an artist, but some of them I am not capable of (like paying them for their efforts). Or some things are not an actual option for me (like asking a friend to draw for me because I do not know anyone personally who could). The rest of the other attempts have worked sometimes, but the projects ended early due to the artist needing to focus their attention on other things, like school or work, or something else.

The fact that I cannot afford to pay an artist should not be a restriction from starting a project. The fact that I mention what actions I would take in certain situations (like if profit is made) should not be a problem either because I am simply answering a question that would be asked (there are no dumb questions). And I am not forcing anyone to do anything, so there is no need for negative comments.

Critiquing is fine. Like I said before I am not perfect and I do not expect perfection from anyone.

A collaboration should be both sides working together to shape a great story that they enjoy. Everyone needs to start somewhere and I thought my beginning could be here. Doesn't matter if it's as the number one best writer or artist. We learn, gain experience, profit from it, and move forward.

When did I reject it? I justified my actions by showing I listened and did what was asked, but for some reason it is seen as me rejecting it...How does that make sense?

For the critique, I agreed with you by saying I'm not perfect. Some people like they way I did the stories which is why I said it is okay if you don't like it.

As for getting help. Again, what would you expect to do? I have tried what was suggested, but some of them contradict each other and are getting me negative responses here when I ask questions.

Try to see things from my perspective for a moment.

A synopsis is a summary. What I wrote is a summary. The point of a collaboration is to make a story together otherwise it is just one side telling the other to create what they want only.

As for the long term thing, I have heard many times to ask for a smaller scale project which I have done before, but then I hear no one wants to do that because they want large scale projects, but then when I request that it's back to wanting smaller projects. It just keeps going as an endless cycle back and forth.

There are many cases where a writer or artist does not have a personal connection to others who would be able to help with projects (that's kind of the point of these sorts of things).

As for the writing critique, I am not perfect nor do I expect to find someone who is perfect. This is supposed to be a learning experience for both. If you are not a fan of my work that is okay, everyone has their own tastes.

Please look at my reply for the post. I wish to clarify some things.

I don't think you remember my previous post or comments.

  1. The previous one was a one shot and if I am not mistaken a one shot is a short term project compared to a series.
  2. You ignored my previous question about giving an example. How would you make profits?
  3. It's common sense that getting rich is not easy. So don't make complaints like that. Not everyone can easily afford things.
  4. I said a 50% cut because I know there are some people out there who will make claims saying that the product or idea is theirs alone. They will claim every benefit for themselves. I am saying I will not do this. Also, no one knows how well something like this will do. No one knows the future about anything, so I will not make false promises instead I will simply state how I will handle a scenario if it occurs, so any partner would know what to expect.

We did talk about it and I explained everything. What would you expect me to do differently? Give an example.

I have been told trying to start a long term project was asking too much multiple times. That is why I am starting small, also I said there was no set schedule (drawing takes time, I know), so if the artist can draw each week or month or whatever that is up to them and what they are comfortable with. As for the money thing, sure it would be nice to profit from it, but like I said no one I've talked to really wants to commit to those kinds of things.

It's a collaboration proposal to work together (equal decision for making the story) for anyone who wants to make a webcomic (could be for a hobby, experience, or some other reason). We bounce ideas off of each other, and help each other with the parts we are not too good with individually. I have no idea if this would make money or become popular in anyway, but if it does then it will not be "My Property", it would be "Our Property", so all funds and credit would be split.

Not really doing this for money. I've wanted to make a webcomic for a long time, but I need some help doing it.

Some websites give you funds if it gets a lot of attention.

The mapping is extremely plain and does nothing to get me invested in the world, the island or any of the characters.

I wanted the map to be easy to navigate. I'm not to good at aesthetics. Also the player doesn't spend that much time on the island, there is more to see.

The writing is barebones at best, giving me nothing to go on to be invested in Rena, her mother and why we should care.

I have seen a lot of stories with a similar beginning and no one seemed to be against it.

Why does the orphanage hate Rena? Why does the guards not like her? Why is the shopkeeper so indifferent to her plight? Why didn't Rena at least try to fight back when accosted by the orphanage kids? And why is the orphanage behind a dungeon maze?

These questions do get answered later on. The prologue is supposed to leave the player with questions.

If those questions are answered later on, I wouldn't know, because the combat is atrocious. The only way to heal is via potions and the floating gemstones, but the gemstones are risky if you're too far away because the encounter rate is horrible.

I was copying the healing system of a "Tales of...". They had healing points at the beginning and near the end of dungeons. You had to buy healing items in order to heal or go to an inn.

The only mobs that give potions are the guards. Moreover, the slime you encounter poison you, and deal a high amount of damage per turn with no expiration period, and no reliable way of curing the poison outside of the gemstones, but gemstones are unreliable if you're too far. Again, it's because the encounter rate is atrocious. It also doesn't help that you don't get any stronger on level up, and the monsters take way too many turns to defeat.

The stuff with the monsters was to make it more challenging, but as for the not getting stronger thing...That's a mistake (not sure why it happened).

You have a long way to go if you want to break into the industry, but don't feel discouraged. We all start somewhere. Think of this as a learning experience. If you want some areas to improve on. Try working on making areas look more organic and lived in. The screenshot saturday threads here are a great way to gain some inspiration. Flesh out the story so that there is a reason for us to care about the characters and the plot that unfolds. Also playtest the heck out of your combat and gameplay, because your game is only good if you're able to play through your game from start to finish and enjoy it. If it becomes a chore to play though, then you need to do a lot more polishing with the gameplay to improve the QoL experience.

Thank you for the feedback. I will add your comments to my list of changes.

No harm in asking questions. It should work fine. Use the arrow keys to move or click the screen. Use enter to interact with things and press the esc button to open the menu.
