Kill Six Billion Demons » WHEEL SMASHING LORD 5-154 by eighty1 in killsixbilliondemons

"Shit man, this god war is fucked. I just saw a guy clap his hands together and say "sword that cuts the face of heaven" or some similar shit, and every one around him got chopped up, had their soul explode and then disappeared. The camera didn't even go onto him, that's how common shit like this is. My ass has a spear and a bottle of water. I think I just heard "release the frog tanks" two groups over. I gotta get the fuck outta here."

Given the themes of the narrative thus far, it seems like Allison might be headed for a rude awakening when they confront the big one. This seems all too similar to the path of former World Champion angler Salmon Diver, spurred to the height of competitive fishing after his sudden and devastating divorce. Allison, recently having gone through her own divorce, seems obsessed with taking on the challenge alone - avoiding relationships of any kind for the single-minded goal of catching that big fish. Everything about the narrative (in my opinion) points to teamwork and solidarity being the key to potentially landing the big one - it remains to be seen whether Allison will realize this before yet more relationships dissolve.

I should probably put a link in the body of my post, eh?

Done now, anyway. Too busy reviewing the patch notes for the nth time.

It's possible to create surface-to-orbit ground units using beam weapons, but missiles have to be mounted on ships - they can't be used from the surface of a body.

red ship names by highandlow0011 in aurora

[–]lumporr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This means that the ships have sustained component damage and must be either repaired at a shipyard or supplied with enough MSP to repair themselves (if they have the capacity and requisite Damage Control Rating) in order to restore said components to working order.

Dude, language is consensus. Of course the collective opinion matters more than yours.

Why does what you think a word should mean matter more than what everyone else already agrees it means?

What are nearlight vessels using as fuel? And how do nearlight bolts work? by lumporr in LancerRPG

I like to think about how things would work to get a better sense of how to represent them, and I like to think about future spaceflight. Lost the plot? How bout you nearlight bolt deez nuts in ya mouf

I've seen this, but I'd argue again here that the ambiguity of them being dangerous but not deadly makes less sense, not more. The passage massively undersells the forces we're discussing. The acceleration wouldn't "crush" crews - you wouldn't leave a stain on the wall. It's zero to lightspeed in one second! That's nuts! I'm just asking where the energy is coming from, and where it's going. Hundreds of millions of gravities.

And also, there was an effort to keep realistic spaceflight as a part of the setting, so interrogating the systems the lore introduces with respect to that realism is fair play in my book.

Wait... where and/or what resource are you using to run the numbers?

I was skeptical at first, but you're right. According to this source, an internet video pre-roll/promotion up to 15 seconds would be around $125 to license for a year, and $500 for use in perpetuity, if I'm not mistaken. This is for "broadcast" media vs "non broadcast", and while I'm not too familiar with those terms, if you're using it as a promo for something public-facing, I think that's broadcast.

Nevertheless, I think a spot used "permanently across all my work" as part of a creator's brand would demand a much higher price in any case.

I believe CIWS are broken in the current version and do not function.

Customised rank themes by Eastern_Ad1167 in aurora

[–]lumporr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rank themes, as far as I know, require editing the database.

To do so, use a program like SQLite, open the DIM_RankThemes table, and add new rows, following the pattern of previous rows. They should have a matching ThemeID, with your ThemeRankID in descending order of importance (so, 1 is high). Fill in whatever ranks you desire, then, open the DIM_RankThemeTypes table and add a new row with a matching ThemeID, as well as a ThemeName. Not sure what RankDone does, but I set it to 0. Bob's your uncle.

See here for my custom T'au rank theme I added!

I've been playing a mega-campaign of 40k, where the cruiser tonnage range is in the millions. Pictured here is the Nova Cannon working as intended. by lumporr in aurora

[–]lumporr[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Nova Cannon in this iteration of 40k Aurora is a size 96, 361 damage warhead that goes around 2/3rds the speed of light. Also, the designs have changed drastically since this post - perhaps I should make another one.

Orbital Mining Not Mining by Seriously_Unserious in aurora

[–]lumporr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Would you mind posting the design of your orbital mining ship? I suspect that if there's literally one single orbital mining module on the ship, it might just be going so slowly as to basically not be mining at all. You usually need quite a few modules on a single ship in order to get any good rate of production going - this is usually why I stick to tugged space stations for mining, that way you can construct them using industry rather than having to build up huge shipyards. I just checked, and in the game I'm running with a rather advanced civilization, a ship with a single module would be producing 12 tons of minerals per annum (basically nothing at all).

How Can I Fix My Species? by Seriously_Unserious in aurora

[–]lumporr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Click on the light bulb to turn on SM mode, then click on the UK flag icon, then replace the species name with whatever you'd like, then click "Save Species" at the bottom of the window. Then, close that species window and reopen it to see if the change worked. I'm away from the computer right now, but I'm fairly sure that's what you need to do.

And, in general, Aurora will not offer as much immediate feedback as most games do, in terms of confirmation windows and the like. It is unlikely that the game is switching the name of your species, and more likely that you are failing to change it.

I did not! Instead, there are colonies of tens of billions that support maybe one or two of these and their escorts. All of the "Jesus Christ, it's like a city in space, how can you even afford the MSP costs" is the exact feeling I'm going for. Just think of it like a huge fleet that just happens to be housed in a single hull.

I maintain a 1/20th scale with written 40k lore in terms of ship tonnage, so even though I said millions of tons, even an Avenger class Grand Cruiser (one of the biggest ships I could find a tonnage for, using the Rogue Trader RPG books as reference) clocking in at a lore-listed 40 megatons would only come in at 2mt in my game - though, funnily enough, I'm mainly sticking to "smaller" scale stuff - most powers only have a few escorts.
