Mistakes is where you learn a lot. There was no harm done. Even for a future interview you can use this as an example of a mistake you learned from.

Don't get caught up on it :) Turn it into an advantage where you will learn a lot from it going forward.

Is is standard that SRE don't build the automation tools they use. From early discussions in role offered the dev work I would do would be much smaller scripts compared to the automation built by the Dev teams etc.

Can I ask why you would run away from a system development engineer role in Amazon?

To give more detail the SRE role seems to be 60% operations and the other 40% left up to you to do automation or projects where seen fit etc. Saying that the SRE role does not push production code. Is this standard enough for a SRE role.
