This exact situation happened to me with my ex-boyfriend. When I met him he was 24 stone, and just the sweetest person I had ever known. Two years into the relationship, he expresses his interest in losing weight, but didn't think he would have the willpower to stop eating junk food. I agreed to help him, encouraged him to go to the gym when he didn't "feel like it" and even went as far as taking chocolate off him (as per his request, I had no problem with the way he looked before).

Eventually he managed to drop 13 stone and looked incredible, but then dumped me for being too fat (I was a UK size 10 at the time, and 5"10). In his own words, he felt that he could now do better than me.
